THANK GOD IT'S CHRISTMAS
For the first time ever, I am doing an update on Christmas Day! I am usually too busy to do an update on this one day of the year (another being my birthday), but with one of my grandmothers gone, things are different, and my family isn't very happy today. We'd go to her house and exchange gifts and eat her Christmas dinner.
Here are N64HS, however, it's business as usual. We've got two really nice improvements that made the POD a close call. Cody Beasley added 10 points to his 4th place Sector Y score in Star Fox 64, and is aiming for 3rd place. Meanwhile, Carl Corder, the Beetle Adventure Racer, has returned to his trade for a brand new Nai WR. Carl, you've been a good boy this year, so (St.) Nicholas gives you a present!

I'm back home from Lake Charles, Louisiana to do the Christmas Eve N64HS update. We should all be getting some new games tomorrow, so we may get lots of new scores in the coming weeks! Today there has just been one time from Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira in Board the Platforms, while yesterday, Zack Allard made some really nice improvements in Star Fox 64. I have a dozen gifts to wrap and a ton of other stuff to do, so I better get going...

BRANDON IS "KOOPED UP"
Brandon Knaus is only the second player to make a perfect Bowser score in Mario Tennis Game Mode. In fact, he's only the second player to send any score for that chart.

Dave Phaneuf gets under 30 seconds in the Mario Party 3 mini-game that should have been called Dizzy Dinghies, as you go around in circles.
LOUISIANA BOUND
I'm going to Louisiana tomorrow to spend the weekend, so there will be no update tomorrow. It isn't to meet Nate Bonnett, but to meet my grandmother, who is my last surviving grandparent, as well as the rest of my mother's family to exchange Christmas gifts.

HE'S A WIZARD OF OZ
Adam Rose is establishing himself as a multi-talented gaming whiz like his neighbors, the Kents. His new records are for 1-Player and Board the Platforms in Super Smash Bros., and one of his Platform times makes the top three! Andrew Kent has a new 1-Player score as well as a minor Yoshi's Story improvement, while sister Michelle, who is back home from the place where Nintendo games are made, improves her 1-Player Total.
ALEX RIDES AND SLIDES
Horseback riding is a popular pastime in Alex Hollingsworth's stomping grounds, so is it any wonder that he'd do well at the Obstacle Course in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. And with winter officially beginning tomorrow, I bet the Texans would love to ski, but they don't have the snow or the mountains, so they have to settle for sliding down a hill on their butts. Alex didn't slide alone, though: he brought with him a new player.

SATISFACTORY SEPTATHLON
Brandon Knaus has finally made the top 20 for Star Fox 64's Total Hits chart. His new total puts him ahead of Patrick Wessels. He gets the POD for this as well as for his new Nai WR Tie in Mario Tennis. He also got last week's POW (which I really should have assigned Friday) for his Star Fox 64 and Mario Tennis progress.
CLOSE ENOUGH TO PERFECT FOR HIM
Tyler Wishall hasn't let us down. He went right back to work in Perfect Dark for top ten times on all the Gadgets! He also made the top ten on ths last remaining Holo course. His totals benefitted well from the weapon and level improvements. He's also got another top ten in Mario Party 3.
BRUNO ROCKS WITH FOX
It wasn't just Brandon Knaus who excelled with Fox today. Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira made a more than 100,000-point improvement with him in Super Smash Bros. to complete his 19th million in total points.

BRANDON TURNS UP THE HEAT
Brandon Knaus has made an amazing Solar improvement in Star Fox 64! It's amazing how far he has come in just a single improvement! It's enough to put Andrew Chan out of the top ten... and he once had the WR! Times change. What was considered a really good score back in the day is now mediocre, and I can attest to that.
TYLER SAILS UP ANOTHER MARIO PARTY 3 CHART
There's one other nice improvement today, by Tyler Wishall. He pushes his Water Whirled time, which had been too slow for the top ten, into the top five! This adds him to another chart and in a great position.

Tyler Wishall worked more on Mario Party 4 today, particularly on Jigsaw Jitters where he has risen several places on the 40-piece puzzle with a half-minute shave, putting him tantalizingly close to the WR. He also has a new Bob-Omb X-Ing time and added another Goomba to his Stomp score. In the future Ty plans to get more top ten times in Mario Party 3, something he actually got close to doing today...

Mauricio Su�rez R. has returned to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as an immortal: he beat the whole game without a single Game Over. It takes a lot to kill him too, because he has 20 Hearts.
NAI WR TY
Tyler Wishall believed that saving 99 lives in Mushroom Medic was impossible, then he came up with an idea. It worked, and Dr. Wishall now stands at the top spot on a Mario Party 4 chart.

TWO MAXED SCORES, EACH A DIFFERENT GAME
Brandon Knaus makes the maximum possible score in two different games today, which is of coures two Nai WRs (tied). One is in Mario Tennis, where he has made another 999 in Game Mode. The other is in Star Fox 64, where has makes his first Nai WR Tie (which will probably be his only one, for a long time). He gets 511 on Area 6, which is the limit on his copy of the game. Star Fox 64 is also the source of Cody Beasley's POW, his first, for making huge leaps in Corneria and Sector Y and all-around progress in the game.

IT'S CHILE IN HERE TODAY
We have a new player today. Not just any new player, but the first player from a new country at N64HS. He's Ignacio P�rez Romero and he is the first N64HS player ever to come from the country of Chile, where it's probably not so chilly right now. Ignacio has some records for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but no WR Ties yet. He may get the 20th Heart Container soon for his first WR, however.

There's a new player today, his name is Tyler Wishall and he is from Missouri, the Show Me State. He shows us his Zelda: Ocarina of Time records, which include two Nai WR Ties. He also has an amazing score for Mario Party 4 that misses the WR by only one point. Incidentally, the game show "Show Me the Money" comes on TV tonight.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING... AND A HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Something happens today that typically happens every five or six years: my father's birthday is the same day as Thanksgiving. He turns 55. Well, I had a great Thanksgiving, did everyone else? It was great getting to see members of my family I hadn't seen since my grandmother's funeral.
BRANDON STEPS ON THE GAS
Brandon Knaus has six new records in two different games, all of them times. He overtook another player with one of his new Board the Platforms times and is making progress in both of the races with Koopa the Quick, beating my best conventional-route time for the Rematch. And since I brought up Board the Platforms, I should mention there's a new time from Bruno de Vasoncelos Teixeira!
WHAT ON CORNERIA WILL HE DO NEXT?
Winfried Merdes makes a small improvement on Corneria, the Earth-like planet in Star Fox 64's Lylat System. If he is going to go for another new score in the future, we'll sure he'll "planet" out very well!

Winfried Merdes, one of the best Star Fox 64 players, is back today, with a new score for Meteo. He was never able to get the golden 511 before, but he may do it soon: with his ten-point improvement he gains a place and puts himself directly below the 511 Club.
NOT THE BEST OF TIMES
Brandon Knaus has some new Super Smash Bros. times in Board the Platforms. He didn't gain any positions with any of the new times. But in Break the Targets, I gained a position: I beat Jorge Maricato's DK time for the 20th place spot. I don't really play Super Smash Bros. so I am surprised to be in a top 20 already, considering that I only played last night to see if I could improve any of my old times.

THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME...
When I was new to N64HS, I was best known for being the best player in Yoshi's Story. In 2001, Derek Kisman took my title after I gave him a very tough fight. I never gave up. In 2003, I took several of his WRs to put myself only one WR away from regaining the crown. And today, I have finally taken the last WR that I needed to re-take the top spot on the Yoshi's Story Rankings, which I have conveniently updated today. You won't believe the turn of events that lead to me getting my first score in three years to become the co-champion (Derek is still champion as well, a title I feel he has earned). After thumbing through a Yoshi's Story strategy guide I ran across at the local mall, I learned that there were actually 132 coins in Ghost Castle, not 110, as everyone believed for many years. I didn't consult the guide any further-- I found the 22 lost coins myself, and thus stripped Derek of one more WR. (Want proof?) How could anyone have missed these coins for so long? Whatever the case, I decided to give myself today's POD (hey, I haven't gotten one in a while!) for this monumental achievement. After all, I got many of my 2000 and 2001 PODs playing this very game. And I am not living down my reputation any time soon. In fact, I have recently been speed running Story Mode and I have already tied the world record at the Speed Demos Archive! And I think I can beat the time by several additional seconds!
KNAUS IS NOT AS QUIET AS A MOUSE
We can't leave Brandon Knaus out of today's update-- he tied three more WRs in the Piranha Challenge and made a fourth in Time Mode, plus he has new Super Mario 64 times and one for Super Smash Bros. (Break the Targets!)

Jorge Maricato and Brandon Knaus, close contenders for the first POW of the month, were tied 3-3 in PODs. By winning today's POD, Brandon Knaus has also earned the POW. Jorge Maricato only makes one WR, but Brandon Knaus makes six, on three different pages. Brandon also has new times in Super Mario 64 and Super Smash Bros.

ZACK'S BACK FOR ANOTHER ATTACK
It was pretty tough deciding who today's POD would go to. Jorge Maricato got three new Nai WRs in Mario Tennis. But I was more impressed, nonetheless, by the work of Zack Allard. Though none of his three scores in Star Fox 64 today are Nai WRs, he made some amazing progress up the charts, and anyone who plays this game knows that climbing the Star Fox 64 ladder is not as easy as it looks! His Total Hits gained him five spots, and if he made just two more points he would have gained six spots! The other two scores he made also gained him several places and are near my scores. And let's not forget, Zack has proof of today's new records plus his new Aquas score. It's hard denying Jorge Maricato a POD that he probably could have gotten, but I think Zack has done well enough to earn his very first POD today!
BECAUSE THEY'RE STILL TOO YOUNG FOR OKTOBERFEST.

THIAGO'S TRICK...
Thiago Trujillo scares up a surprise Nai WR in Super Mario 64 in Game Completion Time, beating the old WR by about six minutes! He also has a new Rematch With Koopa the Quick time. The only other score today is another Star Fox 64 score from Zallard, but it's a pretty good one!

Though Jorge Maricato isn't active today, he's been active nearly every day this month, and has consisently been whipping up WR after WR in Mario Tennis. You all knew the POM was going to be his this month, so I'm not even going to make everyone wait another day to find out the winner. So Jorge gets not only the POW, but also the October 2006 POM... a day early!

FRIDAY THE 13TH NOT SO LUCKY FOR JORGE
Jorge Maricato's POD streak comes to an end today. It's about time Brandon Knaus, who has been his competitor this week, finally won a POD. He deserves it today because he is now battling Jorge on his home turf-- Mario Tennis!! Brandon gets three Nai WRs today, all in Balls Mode, while Jorge gets only two WRs. Brandon is also getting some more decent times in Super Mario 64.

JORGE IS HAVING A BALL!!
Jorge Maricato bags his fifth consecutive POD-- and a nearly 100% chance of winning this week's POW-- for the amazing feats he's achieved today. First off, he makes his final perfect score in Game mode! This may very well be the first time (excluding the Zelda: Ocarina of Time page) that a single player has ever made unbeatable records on every chart of an N64HS page!!! On top of that, Jorge is also the second player to ever make a perfect 999 score in Balls mode and this is his very first score!! He makes his Piranha Challenge debut with a perfect 50 for Mario as well!! In Time mode he finally plants himself in second place in the Mario chart and in Super Smash Bros., he's made a top ten in Break the Targets!!
Way to go Jorge!!!

THE PARTY COMES BACK ALIVE
There's activity once again on the Mario Party pages, and today it's from the Germans. Romolo Grombone and Johannes M�ller have most of today's records; Julian and Christian Revermann and Tobias Braner only have a couple of new records. In fact, these three have actually lost some of their records today-- several of the times they've achieved in 2 vs. 2 mini-games throughout the Mario Party series have been taken down, as they did them using two human players on their team. They have merely overlooked the rules.
MAURICIO TIES A WR IN ZELDA
Mauricio Suarez R., who came here last week to bring the two-week long period of inactivity at N64HS to an end, is back with a tied WR in Ocarina of Time. This isn't his game, it's someone else's, and he's returning it, so we won't see any more Zelda records from him in the mean time. Unless he decides to buy his own copy.

FOUR AWARDS, FOUR WINNERS: TWO SOUTH AMERICANS AND TWO MICHIGANIANS
Before I begin my commentary for today's update, I have some sad news to report. While I was celebrating my birthday yesterday in Mobile, Alabama, my home was burglarized. Stolen was most of my mother's jewelry (which she had been collecting for 30 years) as well as all of my Game Boy consoles (two of which had my games in them, including Super Mario Bros. DX). Inexplicably my computer keyboard was also taken; I'm now using an old one I was saving as a spare. Luckily I wrote my initials on my Game Boy units so maybe they can be recovered.
September 2006 was probably the quietest month we've ever had at N64HS, with fully two weeks passing without a single score. But still, there's been enough activity for a POM, and for a POW in the last week, both of which were won by South Americans.
