Mario Tennis (Piranha Challenge) - Super Mario 64 - Super Smash Bros. (1-Player)

SUPER MARIO 64 HISTORY MADE!!
There has been found away to get a 77th Coinless Star in Super Mario 64, with the use of a glitch that can be read about here. At first I was thinking about making the glitch illegal and saying that no more than 76 Coinless Stars could be collected without cheating, but since some of these 76 require abusing the level design to skip puzzles and difficult areas (which was completely unintended by the makers of the game), I decided to classify the 77th as a legit Coinless Star as well. Curtis Bright was the first player to do it, that's why he gets the POD. Later Alex Penev did it. Congratulations to both players and to MarioSuperFan who found this amazing trick!

TWO COMEBACKS IN SUPER SMASH BROS.
Brandon Eberly and Jim Hays are playing Super Smash Bros. 1-Player again. Brandon passed Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira's total score with two small improvements while Jim Hays has achieved his best score yet.

Today Julian Revermann has not one, but four Nai WRs. But they're all tied Nai WRs. In Pokmon Snap Julian added his name to four more Nai WR lists in Single Pokmon and his total score reached the top ten. Ingmar Danielsson makes his N64HS debut with the new Rambi Arena Nai WR in Donkey Kong 64. It's a Nai WR, but not a WR-- Phil Hughes holds the real WR, with over 250 points, and has been holding it back all these years.

JULIAN MAKES YOSHI'S STORY DEBUT
Today's other debut is German player Julian Revermann's first Yoshi's Story score, which is 9th place and for Lift Castle.

NO POW UNTIL TOMORROW, HERE'S WHY
With February being only 28 days this year (a multiple of 7) I am going to do something different. I am dividing the month neatly into four seven-day weeks which begin with Tuesday and end Monday. This will make the Awards page for this quarter nice and neat when I get around to creating it.

ADAM ROSE POD FOR BEATING MY SCORE
Adam Rose and Jim Hays were the only active players today and the only game they played was Super Smash Bros., and in 1-Player mode. Jim improved his total with a DK score not yet high enough for the top 20 while Adam Rose beat my Mario score and got his total even closer to Greg Jolin. Since I'm not going to get back to 1-Player any time soon (hate all the luck involved) it's a safe bet that Adam will be ahead of me sooner or later.

Another of Australia's Big 3 (the third being Alex Penev, of course), Michael McKenzie has four new Mario Tennis scores, one of them one point away from a perfect score (and being a Nai WR Tie).

NEW SCORES FOR SLIM, NEW RULES IN MARIO 64
"Slim" Jim Hays (you know that's his nickname by looking at his e-mail address) has three new Super Smash Bros. 1-Player scores and has passed Kip Johnson in Total Points. In Super Mario 64, the amazing Dom Dunc has found even more ways to cheat. Before I tell you about his discoveries let me tell you a little about him. He has found more, bigger, and better glitches in Super Mario 64 than any player on the planet. Including David Wonn. He figured out how to beat the game with only 16 Stars rather than the usual 70. His latest find is a way to get a Star in the Capless, Cannonless challenge. This trick is not at all within the game's parameters so I have made it illegal. Also discovered is another way to get extra coins in the coin-collecting challenges, I have made this illegal as well.

Iacopo did the same thing. It's to keep the weeks neatly within each year so we can make the Awards page more accurate. If I had thought about it I would have done it last year too. Anyway, let's meet the youngest ever winner of the Player of the Week award. He's 10-year-old Christian Revermann, who earned his POW by taking several Nai WRs in Extreme G 2, at least one of which still stands even after Christopher Graves's comeback late last week. For outperforming a player more than twice his age, Chris Revermann is the first POW winner of 2005!

JUST A COUPLE OF SCORES TODAY
Today's active players didn't do too much, with no spots gained on the Nintendo 64 charts, making the POD somewhat of a tough call. Kyle Sinclair made a very small improvement to one of his Board the Platforms times while Adam Rose improved his Cruis'n World total time by a hair. On the Game Boy Color, Andrew Kent gained a spot in Super Mario Bros. DX, but of course this doesn't count towards an award on a site devoted to the Nintendo 64. I decided Adam should get the POD because he doesn't get it as often.

QUICK UPDATE
Adam Rose is the only Nintendo 64 player active today, with an improved time for Board the Platforms that puts his total only 0"03 behind Christopher Graves. On the Game Cube, Kyle Sinclair and I improved more of our Mario Party 6 records, none of us gaining any positions. (All of Kyle's were WRs to begin with)

"LUIGI'S DOING BETTER THAN MARIO, BUT DON'T COUNT OUT THE KOOPA!"
Christopher "Mr. Koopa" Graves is playing Extreme G 2 once more. He took seven Nai WRs back from Christian Revermann, improved two Nai WRs he already had "just in case", and got one of his 2nd place times very close to the Nai WR. He also has a new time for Zelda V.

BRANDON EBERLY TAKING A BEATING
Brandon Eberly's Totals in Super Smash Bros. have been passed in both 1-Player and Board the Platforms. Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira beat Bran's 1-Player Total while Kyle Sinclair beat his Board the Platforms Total today.

"GRAB THE STAR! RUN! RUN! RUN! RUN! MOVE UP! MOVE DOWN! JUMP!"
Those were my orders to Koopa Kid yesterday in Mario Party 6's game of Star Sprint. I now have times for all three races, and they're close to Kyle's WRs.

CHRISTIAN REVERMANN WINS SECOND POD IN A ROW FOR XG2 NAI WRS
This German child prodigy has set two more Nai WRs today in Extreme G 2, digging Player of the Year Christopher Graves into an even deeper hole to climb out of. Mr. Graves definitely has his work cut out for him.

GREAT TIME FOR WINTER SPORTS
It sure doesn't feel like winter where I'm at, but I bet it's cold enough in Austria to make people want to hit the slopes. And that's exactly what Michael Plzl did today, improving all his Nagano Winter Olympics records and making a Nai WR along the way.

THE NEW WAY TO PARTY
I've been occupied with Mario Party 6 lately, spending the better part of last night working on getting the remaining mini-games unlocked and making my first Decathalon scores. I made three new second-place records not counting Decathalon events, while Joe Bauman also made a second place in Endurance Alley with 13 wins, which isn't that bad.

LITTLE CHRIS TRUMPS BIG CHRIS
Christopher Graves is going to be very mad when he sees today's update. Christian Revermann, less than half of Christopher Graves's age, has taken a string of six consecutive Nai WRs in Extreme G 2 to be crowned today's Player of the Day. He got a seventh Nai WR on another track, his brother also hit a Nai WR, and Chris also has new Super Mario Bros. DX scores, a few pretty good. Both brothers now have more than half of the Gold Skulltullas in Zelda V too!

ONE GAME, THREE PLAYERS, THREE COUNTRIES, THREE CHARACTERS, THREE NEW TIMES
Christopher Graves, Adam Rose, and Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira, from the USA, Australia, and Brazil, respectively, have new Board the Platforms times for Captian Falcon, Kirby, and Mario, respectively.

ALEX BREAKS TIE WITH MATT
In Pokmon Snap, Alex Penev has his first new Single Pokmon score for the year 2005. It breaks a tie with Matt Flees, giving Alex the WR to himself and causing Matt to lose a WR.

SUPER RANKINGS UPDATE BY CHRISTOPHER GRAVES
Christopher Graves isn't only a great gamer, he's also quite handy. He took a big load off of Andrew Kent's shoulders by doing updates for many Rankings pages, including Cruisin' World, which hadn't been updated by Chris Rayola at all. So now it's part of our job. Check out how much has changed in the Rankings since the last update three months ago!

IT'S ALL IN HOW YOU SMASH
The only Nintendo 64 game played today was Super Smash Bros. Three people played, and all three pages were updated. To start off, in 1-player mode, Andrew Kent improved Luigi and Kirby, while Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira gained a lot of positions with a new Yoshi score, putting him closer to Brandon in total points, earning him today's POD. Kyle Sinclair has a few Board the Platforms and Break the Targets improvements to top it all off.

CHRIS GETS BACK TWO XG 2 NAI WRS
Christopher Graves, who's very angry at Julian Revermann repeatedly coming back to the same tracks taking his WRs, and very angry at his game (which he says messes up some of his good runs for no reason at all), has three new times, two of them Nai WRs.

JULIAN, CHRIS, AND TOBY STAY OFF THE N64 FOR THE MOST PART
There are plenty of new scores from these three German players today, but only one is for a N64 game, and that's Christian Revermann's new Gold Skulltulla count. Christian had the most impressive score of the bunch today with a WR Tie in Super Mario Bros. DX while Julian has a few new scores on that game and gains his first spot in the total time chart, and Tobias Braner has some nice new Mario Party times.

FIRST BRAZILIAN IN SPACE
Luiz Roberto, Jr. wins the second POD of 2005. Not only did he climb into the cockpit of an Arwing and become the first Brazilian to tackle the Lylat System, he also took a Nai WR in Mario Party 2. Two of his friends made Nai WRs in Mario Party 3 as well.

I'VE BEEN BANJONATED
Michael Plzl finishes his new run through Banjo-Kazooie today with a time of just over six hours, just enough to beat my time and take my name off of the top ten!

BUSY GERMANS
In addition to Mike's Banjo-Kazooie completion, we have more records from German-speaking players, only these two are actually German. One is of course Julian Revermann, with new Farron times in Extreme G 2 (no Nai WRs) and new Super Mario Bros. DX and Zelda scores. Also is Tobias Braner who made great progress in Mario Party 4.

BRUNO GOES UP THE 1-P CHARTS
Finally today, Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira has some new 1-Player Super Smash Bros. scores. One of them brings him up ten places on the chart, out of last place.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

CHRISTOPHER GRAVES, DESPITE ONLY BEING ACTIVE IN THE LAST QUARTER, TAKES PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The 22-year-old native of Little River, South Carolina, near Myrtle Beach, who moved to North Carolina to pursue a higher education, is our Player of 2004. He made a dramatic comeback in October with some Blast Corps times, and in three short months, he has moved mountains, additionally earning him Player of the Quarter. Here's some of the things Christopher has done to earn N64HS's biggest award: With feats like this, a player active only three months out of the year easily deserves this award!

STARTIN' OFF CLEAN
As always, every three months the front page updates are cleared and moved to an Archived News page. These are available from the menu on the left, so go on and browse the N64HS history! ;-)

2004'S LAST POM IS 2005'S FIRST POD
Julian Revermann, who earned last month's POM for keeping Christopher Graves busy in Extreme G 2, wins the first POD of 2005 for new Extreme G 2 times that will no doubt cause Chris to start the year trying to get them back. 2004 may be over, but the showdown between Graves and Revermann is still on!

KYLE CLOSES IN ON BRANDON
Kyle Sinclair is getting his Board the Platforms total very close to that of Brandon Eberly's. Today he worked on Samus and Jigglypuff and he says he can get both of these times lower. I say Brandon better be prepared to lose a spot on the Board the Platforms Total Time charts.
