The Nursery Song
With a rustle of angel wings you entered my life,
So Small -- yet you filled my heart with song.
Tears of joy welled up in my eyes --
A grandson -- I've waited so long!
I felt her wings touch my face
As she laid you in my arms.
I looked into your eyes and saw,
Not the innocence of a brand new soul,
But the wisdom of the ages,
And still I rocked you and sang you a silly nursery song.
With a rustle of angel wings you left my life,
So small -- and my heart so full of sorrow
That only six short months we had,
And what a fallacy that word "tomorrow!"
I feel your wings touch my face
As you go about your daily task
Of drying my never-ending tears --
Now you wrap me in your soul of innocence
And with the wisdom of the ages
Rock me, and sing to me a silly nursery song.
