A page for local (and not so local) amateurs to express their opinions and views regarding amateur radio.....
Just a note to say thank you for a job "well done" for all of the amateurs assisting during the flood disaster here in Eastern North Carolina. --KC4RDT
FYI (For your information)As of Oct. 04, 1999 there are currently 368 licensed hams living in Pitt County, NC, and three ham clubs (four license callsigns) licensed in Pitt County, for a total 372 licenses issued to Pitt County!
????question???? Where are they? Never hear them operating! --------------Could they be on the internet? (hi hi)
Could it be a select few hams discourage others from participating in our hobby?!! Have you "encouraged" someone today?
Email for info/ or to "air your view!" [email protected]Thank you!

97.119 Station Identification
(a) Each amateur station...must transmit its assigned call sign on its transmitting channel at the end of each communication, and at least every ten minutes during a conversation, for the purpose of clearly making the source of the transmissions from the station known to those receiving the transmissions. No station may transmit unidentified communications or signals, or transmit as the station call sign, any call sign not authorized to the station.
(b)The call sign must be transmitted with an emission authorized for the transmitting channel in one of the following ways....
(2)By a phone emission in the English language. Use of a standard phonetic alphabet as an aid for correct station identification is encouraged;...
Are you clearly identifying your station?----- it's the "FCC" Law!!!; and good amateur practice!!
<<< ex. W4RXY ---That's W, FOUR, R, X, Y and not W, FOURrrr, X, Y >>>
UNLAWFUL USE OF CLUB CALLSIGN??
Q> I have two questions concerning club callsigns... First,,, in
events
such as field day operations, does the trustee of the club call still
have to be present at the event?... For example, if the local club
trustee is an EXTRA, but is not present at the event,,, can the club
call still be used by novices, techs, generals, etc,,, and operate in
the EXTRA frequency privileges?
A> The station trustee, and the control operator are responsible for the
station's operation [97.103(a)]. The control operator may operate
the
station only up to the privileges of his or her own operator license
[97.105(b)]. If the privileges in use exceed those of the station trustee's,
however, the station ID must consist of the club station's call sign
followed by the home station call sign of the control op: WA1JUY/K1CE, for
example [97.119(d)].
Q> Second,, is it now allowed that a club can hold two call signs
concurrently?... I know that hams are not authorized but one callsign at
a time,,, but the recent club recently added a second call (both are in
operation)/ Is this now allowed? What is the regulation(s) regarding
use of a club call sign?
In particular, can a club call be used at civic events, or other functions, such as
emergency
operations centers?
A> There are no limits as to how many calls a club may have.
The club callsign can be used only if the event is "club
sponsored". For example
a local ham club callsign can only be used by the local ARES group
if the ARES group is actually part of the local ham club and not separate
organizations.. Otherwise, the ARES group and the ham club would need to use their
individual authorized callsign. The callsign of another
organization or group is not an authorized callsign {97.103(a)(b); 97.105(a)(b); 97.119(a}
The event must be club sponsored., not just club supported.....
