More fun stuff: belly dancers in the United Kingdom are objecting to Iraq's decision to train agents as belly dancers to target dissidents in London. According to the Telegraph, British belly dancers say the Iraqi agents will undermine their business. There is such fierce competition for places to belly dance in London that one restaurant runs a contest on Lebanese television where the prize is a one-month contract to perform there. It's also been reported that a well-known Iraqi belly dancer plans to set up a school in London as a cover for giving support to Saddam's spies. "There is already little work for belly dancers in Britain these days," said Ms. Kathy Salford, who has been a belly dancer for more than 30 years and has performed in most of the well-known clubs across the Middle East. "This will deter customers from attending legitimate clubs or taking dance classes." Hmm... it's just my personal opinion, but after belly dancing for 30 years, perhaps it's time to retire anyway?
Now a little more closer to home. Recently I've been hearing an odd signal on or around 4796. The signal is a kind of repetitive, thumping pulse signal which sounds like it sweeps downward in frequency. The signal has a wide bandwidth about 30 kHz wide. I reported this signal to the WUN and Spooks mailing lists, however nobody knows what the signal is. It is still going as I type this. It was suggested that it may be some sort of over-the-horizon (OTH) radar signal. This could be the explanation, as the signal has a very wide bandwidth and similar characteristics of OTH radar (like the "thumping" sound it produces). But, without any kind of definite evidence as to what the signal actually is, it will have to remain unidentified for now.
That's all for this month. Please send your contributions & loggings to me at the address at the top of the page.
