With the recent military action in Kosovo, monitors in Europe have noted an increase in numbers activity. Most notedly the "Spanish Man" or V7 station has been more active since the airstrikes by NATO aircraft. The "Spanish Man" is a Russian-operated station, so presumably the increase in activity may have something to do with the objections to the NATO airstrikes by the Russian government. As far as I know, there haven't been any increases in other stations' traffic, but it would pay to stay alert. With that, let's look at this month's loggings.

John Maky writes: "With the upcoming sunspot cycle, Atencion/V2 seems to be dropping 3- 8Mhz frequencies and replacing them with 9-12. Is it just me, or did Fidel find a new commissar to run his spy radio operation? Suddenly their broadcasts are amazingly clean and free of mistakes. They also have been starting on time. This seems to have started (maybe coincidently) with their sudden change to higher frequencies away from the ham/broadcast bands. Maybe Camarada Technico Radio assembled a firing squad. V2 finally gave up competing w/Lord's Ranch on 7555. Maybe one of Castro's agents defected when he 'heard the word'. I couldn't find a replacement frequency - did anyone else?"

That's all for this month. Please send all loggings, comments, and numbers-related information to the address at the top of the page.
