Entry for December 21, 2006
Well it's been a while since I've made an entry here, so thought I'd add one. Not much really has been going on here radio-wise since we've been busy remodeling the house. As soon as this project is completed, and when I switch work shifts, I plan to become more active at working on some homebrew/equipment repair projects here.
I plan to get started on converting the Midland 13-830 CB I got from Ebay to a backup beacon. My beacon's been heard around the country thanks to increased propagation, possibly due to the recent solar storms. It is operating fine but I do want to get the backup beacon built in case I have any problems with the main beacon. Converting the CB will consist of replacing the transmit crystal, tuning it up on 10 meters, then removing all the unnecessary components, like squelch, volume, CB/PA controls, which means very carefully snipping & removing wires. Then the keyer will need to be installed along with LED's & buttons to control the keyer. Since I've done it several times before, this should be a snap.
