"Beneath Cold Waters"

       Dave Whittemore is a marine life photographer living in Augusta Maine who specializes in capturing the underwater world on film. As an avid sport diver, Dave has been taking pictures for over a decade photographing marine life in his native state of Maine and all over the Caribbean. Although he enjoys the warm waters of the tropics, his passion is cold water diving. In recent years, Dave's adventures have taken him to the waters of New Brunswick, Canada and the St.Lawrence seaway in northern Quebec.

        Several years ago a close friend encouraged Dave to enter some of his images in a national photography contest. Dave had been resisting feeling that his work was not of winnable quality. One of his entries won 1st place in the North East Cold Water Category and he has been winning in this category every year since. Dave's win at "Beneath the Sea 2001" at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, NJ this year was his biggest win ever! Winning 1st and 2nd place in the North East Cold Water Category and 3rd place in the Marine Life Category. Dave is especially proud of his 3rd place win in the Marine Life Category as his cold water image was competing against those taken in the tropics from all over the world!

        Dave hopes to show through his photography that the Marine Life right here in our own back yard rivals that of the Caribbean both in diversity and color.
