For those who knew or knew of my wife and haven't already heard, she passed away March 28, 2008.
Sandra has always had to fight to live. She was born with a deformed heart, but that did not stop her from doing the things she wanted to do. She just had to find ways to do them at her pace. She did not know the meaning of "I Can't".
In 2002, her heart had about all it could handle and she received a heart and a kidney transplant. She needed the kidney because the congestive heart failure that she had been going through had damaged her kidneys. After the surgery, she had a stroke. She had so much hope that the transplant was going to make her like a new woman. Instead, she woke up several days later to find that she could not talk, or move anything on her left side. She needed a machine to assist her breathing. After much physical therapy, she regained much of her mobility. She lost use of her hand and just walked with a limp. This still did not keep her down.
A couple of years after the transplant, cancer struck. Still, all she talked about was getting better so she could do the things she wanted to do. The doctors did all they knew, but in the end, God has the last word. I guess it was her time to go.
Sometimes I am sad that she is gone, but then I try to remember the happy times we had. I am so thankful that I was able to be married to such a wonderful and positive person. I will always miss you Sandra. |
