| Astrophotography of the past relied mostly on film cameras, as least as far as the hobbiest was concerned. Today the scene has rapidly advanced to CCD's since webcams became available and means of running powerful image processing software was brought into the household. The problem now is coupling the webcam electronics to the optics. There are various methods of coupling the camera to the telescope, afocally (placing the camera lens right on the eyepiece) being one of the ways. The preferred method is removing the eyepiece and focusing the image right on the CCD. This requires some type of coupler: a 1.25" eyepiece holder to the camera housing. In my case I removed the Toucam from original housing and placed it into an enclosure purchased from Radio Shack. This provides more room for wiring, switches, connectors, etc. Here is the picture: |
