F.A.Q. (frequently asked questions)

Q.What year are 3rd generation Monte Carlos?
A. 1978-1980

Q.Did Chevrolet make a SS those years?

Q.Did they make any 3rd gens with 350 small blocks?
A.Nope largest V8 in the 3rd gens was a 305ci (some say that they made something called a Black Knight which had a 350 but no one i know has ever seen  one or any proof of one)

Q.What year did Chevy make the Turbo Monte?
A.Well the 1980 was available with a V6 Turbo 81 also but thats a 4th gen

Q. How do i make my 3rd gen Monte faster?
A.Well a set of headers with dual exhaust, aluminum intake manifold (if you own a 78 you will need to upgrade to a 4 barrel carborator)this along with a good tune up will get you a few extra ponys

Q.What is a Build Sheet and where can i find mine?
A.The build sheet is a piece of pape that contains alot of useful info on your Monte Carlo (RPO codes, weights, dates, location made. ect)It is most often found under the carpet under the front seats, under the rear seat or in the headliner depending on where the person building your car decided to put it. (Click Here to see what a BuildSheet looks like)

Q.What are the largest tires i can put on my 3rd gen?
A.most common size is 245/60/15 but a 295/60/15 will fit with the rear of the car lifted alittle.(295/60/15 will not fit the front so i'd stick with the 245s up there.

Q.I am thinking about swaping in a 350 in place of my 305 will it bolt up and will all the accessories fit the 350?
A.Yes it will bolt right up as long as it's a Chevy 350. and yes all the things from the 305 will fit on the 350.

Q.whats a good engine to put in place of my old and tired 305 or even a V6?
A.well theres alot depends on how much money you have to spend and how fast you want to go. Heres a few ideas starting with the cheapest. rebuild yourself a 350 from a junkyard, have someone else rebuild it for you, Build your self a nice 383 Stroker (350sbc block with 400sbc crank), GM ZZ4 is a nice choice.... then if you have tons of dough and want to break the sound barrier go for the 502hp 502bbc ya can't lose with that one.
