The Wisconsin State Patrol has jurisdictions on the State's Interstates, US & State Highways. (However Milwaukee County Sheriff patrol the freeways in that county). Additional channels are in the patrol radios for the primary area covering the local agencies. If a radio system is on other than VHF high band, a radio is supplied from that agency
Troopers identify with three digit numbers with the first digit being their district number, for example, 255 is in District 2. Inspectors have four digit numbers with the first two digits being the district number, for example, 1105 is in District 1.
To call the district communications center, mobile units call the nearest tower, for example, "255 Delafield." Dispatch calls the mobile unit like this: "Delafield 255". Mobile units are repeated from one (in small districts) or two towers. This means that it is possible to hear the base and not the mobile or vice versa.
