Each piece of equipment is now equipped with Portable radios for each Firefighter. Radio designations have not been decided so as for now they are known as Company Portable 1,2, 3 etc. example" Engine 2, portable 1 or portable 2" These are tested each morning at 0700 hours after the station and vehicle radio checks.
Rock Island Volunteer Fire Dept. RI VFD was reorganized in the late 1980s to supply service to the unincorporated areas along the north shore of the Rock River west of Rock Island/Moline border. A license was issued on 154.235. Last news concerning this is they are not in operation.
EMS
EMS is supplied by Paramedics of the RIFD
Medical Mutual Aid is from Moline FD or Trinity Ambulance Service
United Ambulance (out of business) at one time supplied service to the city. Illini Ambulance then supplied service for about two years. Since about 1988 RIFD has have paramedic-firefighters on staff
