We got up before 5am to get to the famous Mumbai Laughing club. It was so famous in fact that not many people around had ever even heard of it. My friends in Australia had heard of it. Its had documentary coverage ask people in Mumbai some don’t know what your talking about. We got to the gateway of India and watched the sun rise, waiting for the club members to arrive. We asked around and found the spot in a sort of garden area. We where sitting enjoying the place when suddenly an elderly gentleman with white hair and smooth brilliant English approached us and asked if we where looking for the laughing club. We talked about where we where from and the likes and finally the other members began to arrive. We all stood in a circle and joined by some Koreans began to do stretches and breathing exercises. Women and men all joined in. Some poor some rich it didn’t seem to matter. Then the laughing exercises began. At first it was a little strange as he went through different ways to laugh including a section called foreign laughter’s where he went through Chinese, Japanese, Australian, German, British, and a swag of other laughter’s that where all associated with different hand movements and body positions. By the end you couldn’t help laughing it was contagious. It was so much fun. It only went for around half an hour, afterwards you felt great. Framed by the gateway of India and the ocean and boats, the Mumbai Gateway of India laughing club is a morning I wont soon forget.
