These Tibetan Bars deserve an entry to themselves! They are the ultimate blend of Tibetan culture and modern technology. The first one I went to was in Lhasa and was very wild. Paintings of the gods from Tibetan Buddhism playing instruments line the walls. A huge mural of the potala palace was the back drop for the stage. The most modern light machines, smoke machines, lazers and bubble machines pump out a nite club. When I first went in with my crazy hat every bar girl and waitress ran out and threw themselves on me! After that initial fun I set about checking the place out. Chinese are not welcome, beer is drunk in shots from very small glasses. People sat at tables and sort of booths facing the stage. Nothing was happening on the stage but everyone was waiting in anticipation. It was now about 10pm . There was an upper level with a sort of viewing gallery of the stage. 1 group or family asked me to sit with them, they gave me beer shots all nite. You have to do a sort of cheers without saying anything, drink the beer down then put the glass to your eye and look through it as if it’s a telescope. They drank hard and fast, I didn’t attempt to keep up as I had been told Tibetans drink hard and fast until they “are flat” as the guide had warned. This was true they drink very hard and fast. The Music had been playing for quite a while when suddenly the first set of dancers came on. It was like disco music mixed with Tibetan words and the costumes where completely traditional looking! It was wild, with the lights the bubbles, the costumes, the smoke, and the disco music and shots of beer and oh my god!!!!!!!!!
I left around 2am very tierd from a crazy crazy nite!
