Going to Kathmandu
The bus trip to Kathmandu was unforgettable. At first as we climbed into the mountains we passed through misty jungle where tigers and elephants live. Jungle as far as could be seen. As we climbed higher we began to follow rivers 100m down in gorges, the water a brilliant turquoise and the sky that rich azure blue. The rivers where punctuated with grey boulders and trucks that stood on the side as they waited to be loaded with rocks used for construction. I could not see any way for the trucks to get down there without apache helicopters lifting them. There where isolated villages on the other side of the river with 200m long suspension bridges that looked like they where made of fishing wire and where strictly for foot traffic. The Bus wound through the mountains stopping a few times for us to buy oranges and just breaking up the 8 hour journey. It was such a beautiful trip! Finally at about 4pm we arrived in Kathmandu, it was busy and looked big but the people are friendly and we are staying in a great guest house, the oldest in Kathmandu. Last nite we went up a massive Buddhist temple with an amazing view of the city it was many many steep steps but it was well worth it! Afterwards off for excellent Korean food near the guest house and there ended the first day in Kathmandu.
