Willy Wonkas sweet Factory in Amritsar
While In Amritsar we had finished eating at a nice little restaurant and noticed down a back ally what looked like the most enormous cooking pots I had ever seen. We where not allowed in but after showing more interest the manager agreed to let us in. It was a huge Indian sweet factory. It was not run by Willy Wonka as the name suggests. I just said that because I like the sound of it. The vats of boiling sugar and hearbs and flavours could fit a short person and where being stirred and sifted by hand. People sat all day stirring boiling sugar, a hard job. There where 4 floors and people sort of seemed to live there too, there was washing hanging inside and the floors had a layer of filth and people sat on the floor and smoked cigarettes, I don’t think it would have passed Australian health and safety standards. They gave us tea which was goods, they also gave us sweets which was surprising. It was lots of fun and everyone insisted on having their photos taken!
