GED Talk
I am a GED teacher. Come here to read about all things GED.
Entry for July 14, 2007
We've finally arrived at GED level. Level 5 - Low Adult Secondary Education grade 9.0 - 10.9. Description: *Individual can comprehend expository writing and identify spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors; can comprehend a variety of material such as periodicals and non-technical journals on common topics, can comprehend library reference materials and compose multi-paragraph essays; can listen to oral instructions and write an accurate synthesis of them; can idetify the main idea in reading selectons and use a variety of context issuses to determine meaning. *NRS Manual. This is truly high school level. This student is able to read, write, and understand more complex material than pre-ged students. At this point students can begin a true plan of preparing to take the GED test. These students are truly GED students.  Anyone taking the test prior to reaching this skill level does not have a good chance of passing. They do not yet possess the skills needed to pass. Don't fool yourself,  levels 1-4 are not in the GED zone. That's why it's called pre-GED, meaning before GED. Levels five and six are usually combined, and that would be a bonafide GED class. Next time level 6, Lynne.
