Last night, I was lamenting to my wife that I longed for the Good Old Days, back when the Republicans were blue, and the Democrats were red. She looking at me like the other half of my mind had finally gone, and indicated that I must have imagined the color change.

It turns out that I didn't iagine it all! Up until 1980, electoral vote maps showed the Republicans as blue and the Democrats as red. Then it just reverses in 1980! Anybody know why?!
