| I have a beautiful large print of this one mounted on a gorgeous piece of woodwork in my living room. I also have several smaller Dali prints throughout my livingroom and family room. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This one is much prettier in color. I have a print of this one above my bed. My entire room is designed around this and one other piece of art. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Edna St. Vincent Millay | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I, being born a woman and distressed By all the needs and notions of my kind, Am urged by your propinquity to find Your person fair, and feel a certain zest To bear your body's weight upon my breast: So subtly is the fume of life designed, To clarify the pulse and cloud the mind, And leave me once again undone, possessed. Think not for this, however, the poor treason Of my stout blood against my staggering brain, I shall remember you with love, or season My scorn with pity, -- let me make it plain: I find this frenzy insufficient reason For conversation when we meet again. |

| Mindful of you the sodden earth in spring, And all the flowers that in the springtime grow; And dusty roads, and thistles, and the slow Rising of the round moon; all throats that sing The summer through, and each departing wing, And all the nests that the bared branches show; And all winds that in any weather blow, And all the storms that the four seasons bring. You go no more on your exultant feet Up paths that only mist and morning knew; Or watch the wind, or listen to the beat Of a bird's wings too high in air to view, -- But you were something more than young and sweet And fair, -- and the long year remembers you. |

| I dreamed I moved among the Elysian fields, In converse with sweet women long since dead; And out of blossoms which that meadow yields I wove a garland for you living head. Danae, that was the vessel for a day Of golden Jove, I saw, and at her side, Whom Jove the Bull desired and bore away, Europa stood, and the Swan's featherless bride. All these were mortal women, yet all these Above the ground had had a god for guest; Freely I walked beside them and at ease, Addressing them, by them again addressed, And marvelled nothing, for remembering you, Wherefore I was among them well I knew. |

| I have a very large library of books, but my favorite has always been my 1941 copy of the Collected Sonnets of Edna St. Vincent Millay. This particular poem from The Harp-Weaver demonstrates Millay's use of lilting verse, driven by the urgency of passion, as well as her brilliant use of sarcasm. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Millay was well-learned in classical mythology, and she often included it in her poetry. This is sonnet from Fatal Interview is one of her most romantic, and one of my personal favorites, romantic that I am. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Many of Millay's sonnets reveal her obvious love of nature. This sonnet from Renascence is no exception. When I die, please place this on my gravestone, for I also revere nature. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
