Text Box: Why is learning about your government and economics important?
In order to become a socially responsible citizens, we must gain a better understanding of our nation's complex system of government and economy.  We will accomplish this goal by actively examining life in      America today.  
What will I learn in my Government class?

The theme of the first quarter of course will be the inter-relationship between our government, our laws and our people. This class will inform you and prepare you to participate in government. It is through decision– making and participation on your part that will lead our country on a bright path for the future. This year we will study the basic structure of our democratic system and learn the essential responsibility Text Box: of citizens of the United States to participate in our governmental process, to protect individual rights and help the nation grow. 
What will I learn in my Economics class?
develop an economic perspective on the world
understand and articulate the major economic concepts of:
          o supply and demand
          o opportunity cost and scarcity
          o comparative and absolute                       
              advantage
          o elasticity
          o profit maximization in various \
             market structures
          o fiscal and monetary policy

Text Box: I look forward to working with each and every one of you. Please be aware that a quarterly syllabus will be given to you at the beginning of each quarter to inform you of upcoming assignments and readings. Please be aware that you must pass this course in order to graduate.  
Respect and collaboration are integral to your success in this classroom. I expect a lot from my students   because I truly believe that every person is capable of achieving. A positive classroom environment means that no one will be left behind! If all students work together and follow all classroom guidelines, we will have a great year!

Text Box: Through thematic academies, South East High School will offer an interdisciplinary curriculum to educate, enlighten, and inspire. Graduates will be empowered to be responsible citizens who are self motivated critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
Text Box: Grades are earned through a point system. The breakdown will be done as follows:
Homework = 25%
Class Activities = 25%
Test/Quizzes = 25%
Projects/Binder = 20%
Participation and collaboration – 5%
*Extra credit is a privilege and will be given on a limited basis. Please take note that extra credit cannot be used as make-up work for assigned work in this class. 
**Cheating will not be tolerated in this classroom.

Text Box: 1.	Students must come to class everyday on time.
2.	Students must be respectful and courteous to themselves, other students, the classroom, and the teacher.
3.	Students must raise his/her hand in order to speak. 
4.   All students must come to class prepared and ready to learn
5.   No food/drinks allowed in the classroom
6.   Remember that ALL school wide rules apply in the classroom as well

Text Box: No late work will be accepted, unless you have a valid excused absence. 
Make-up tests and quizzes will be given the day the student returns from an valid excused absence. It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements as needed. 
Questions about your grade on an assignment or in the class can be given to you at the beginning or after class. (Please be reminded that every student starts off with an A in this class, it’s up to you to keep it)
