OBITUARY: LESTER WHITE, TWO DAUGHTERS KILLED IN MICHIGAN TODAY
MRS. WHITE AND YOUNG SON IN ADRIAN, MICHIGAN HOSPITAL SERIOUSLY INJURED.
FAMILY ON WAY HERE FOR GOLDEN WEDDING CELEBRATION OF MRS. WHITE'S PARENTS.
Lester D. (Pete) White, of Jackson, MI former resident of Parkersburg and
Beldre, and his two young daughters Sally Jo, age 12, and Barbara Ann age
10 were killed, instantly in an automobile accident this morning near Adrian
MI. Mrs. White and their youngest child, Danny aged 5, were both seriously
injured and are now in an Adrian hosp. The details of the tragedy learned
by local relatives are meager as they came from a nurse in the Adrian
hospital. Mrs. White was conscious enough to give the hospital authorities
the number of her brother, John Overmeyer, Sales Manager for the Royal
Furniture Company here and the nurse contacted him by phone, shortly after
10 o'clock this am but have no information as to how the accident occured.
Mr. Overmeyer and Richard E. White brother of the accident victim, left
immediately for Adrian. Mr. White and his family were on their way to
Parkersburg and Belpre from Adrian to attend the Golden Wedding Anniversary
of Mrs. White's parents Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Overmeyer of 303 Walnut Street,
which was to have had a happy family celebration on Sunday. Mrs. White is
the former Miss Irene Overmeyer. Mr. White who was about 39 years of age,
was located in Jackson MI as office manager of the International Harvester
Company. He had been connected with that organization for a number of years
until he was promoted and transfered about three years ago. He was the son
of Mr. and Mrs. J. Daniel White and was born in the Wadesville section of
Wood County. The family later removing to 36th Street, this city. In
addition to his wife and young son he is survived by 3 brothers. Fred White,
now of Kentucky; Verne White of Jacksonville, FL; and Richard E. White of
Belpre and by 2 sisters Mrs. Edith Robinson of Cambridge, Ohio and Mrs.
Nellie Partridge of Akron, Ohio. The bodies of Mrs. White and his two
daughters were taken back to Adrian. Details for their burial will not
be made until his brother and brother-in-law arrive in Adrian.
