Studio 4°C


Studio 4°C was founded by Eiko Tanaka (CEO), Koji Morimoto and Yoshiharu Satoh.

In addition to larger productions, films such as Spriggan and Steamboy, they have also done short films, commercials and music clips.


Animation works produced by Studio 4°C include:
1995 - MEMORIES
(comprising 3 separate movies: Cannon Fodder, Magnetic Rose and Stink Bomb)
1998 - Spriggan
2001 - Arete Hime (or Princess Arete)
2004 - Mahou Shoujo Tai
2004 - Steamboy


Studio 4°C also did the animation and production design for 5 (of 9) episodes of 2003's The Animatrix.
They are: Beyond, Detective Story, Kid's Story, and Second Renaissance - Parts 1 and 2.
Studio 4°C was involved in making a music clip for the japanese band, Glay, as well. It was the promotional video for Glay's song, Survival.

About Grasshoppa!
The Grasshoppa! series is a short films magazine, comprising original short films by different directors.
Some works are animated, some are live-action.

Grasshoppa! Vol 3 cover Comedy appears in Grasshoppa! Volume 3, Sweat Punch 3rd feature. It is directed by Kazuto Nakazawa of Studio 4°C.
Besides Comedy in Volume 3 of Grasshoppa!, there are also short animation features from Studio 4°C in Grasshoppa! Volumes 1, 2 and 4.
The Grasshoppa! series is available on DVD and VHS.



The company name Studio 4°C came about because...

Unlike most matter, water is densest in its liquid form and liquid water is densest at 4°C.
and the image of
         koumitsudo (high density) = high quality
reflects their creative policy.
