my journey

qatar march 2004
doha

my first ever trip to the middle east, i was in doha, qatar for almost a week in march 2004. i was enthralled by the architecture, geographical and weather difference of the middle east compared to everywhere else i have been. qatar was probably not the most interesting of middle east countries as compared to uae, oman, egypt and others but i managed to make the most of the trips and took some photos to showcase the qatari way of things!

a small shop selling headscarfs at the souq

more headscarfs, beads and jubahs

i saw this man transporting an old woman on the cart before i took this picture.. hhhmm strange way of transportation there in doha! i'd like to call this man THE TRANSPORTER!!

a typical day at the main souq in doha, notice another transporter man!!

doha has a pretty good highway system, everything seemed brand new; i was thinking "the contrast of the tarmac and the eternity of the desert" as i took this photo

i went to the camel souq, and what an experience it was!! apparently a camel could fetch between 2-3 thousand dollars!! and they gave camels as wedding dowries too!

camel behind bars!

the camel men, having a midday break (or just lazying around?)

at the sheep souq adjacent to the camel souq.. and another typical day for the sheep souq men!

a typical house in doha; my favourite aspect of doha, all the buildings had the same squarish architecture and they were all whitewashed! i shall call thee the whitewashed city!!

2 main reasons i took this picture, i felt compelled to potray the more modern part of doha (notice sheraton doha in the distance!) and a more important point, look at how bright the desert sky was!!!

the camels having a ball.. and this photo managed to capture their beauty and joy! the treasure of the beduouins!
