Q Manual

Preface and Acknowledgment

To all students in the Faculty of Business and Economics:

As its name suggests, this publication is aimed at increasing your effectiveness as a student. For many of you who have not experienced university level study, the Q Manual will provide you with ideas, suggestions and guidelines to enable you to achieve academic success by producing quality work and getting it done on time. We suggest you read the Q Manual thoroughly and refer to it often throughout your course of study.

Much of the material in this book stems from the work of Ms Patrizia Cotesta, a lecturer in Accounting Information Techniques (AIT). Chapter nine on Plagiarism, is based largely on the work of Glenda Crosling of Language and Learning Services at Monash University, and is reproduced in the Q Manual with her permission. We also appreciate contributions from Rosemary Clerehan, Head of Language and Learning Services. We gratefully acknowledge constructive suggestions for the second edition from staff of the School of Business and Electronic Commerce, Faculty of Business and Economics, Gippsland campus. Contributions from staff of the Department of Accounting and Finance and the Department of Management, Faculty of Business and Economics, the Faculties of Engineering, and Computing and Information Technology, Monash University, and the School of Nursing, Deakin University are gratefully acknowledged. Our special thanks go to Liz Butler, Teaching Services Unit, Monash University, for the manual design, and to Lynne Macdonald for editing the manual.

We wish you a stimulating, challenging and rewarding learning experience throughout your undergraduate and graduate studies at Monash University.
