Appendix 5 Some criteria for referring to research

  • The relevance of the material to the issue under discussion.
  • The validity of the research, especially in relation to the case being put forward.
  • The compatibility of the evidence or argument with the case and implications of this on the case.
  • The reliability of the evidence for the case or point being made.
  • The significance of the research.
  • The consistency of the individual parts of the description in the research to each other and the whole.
  • The comprehensiveness of the research.
