Appendix 5 Some criteria for referring to research

The relevance of the material to the issue under discussion.
The validity of the research, especially in relation to the case being put forward.
The compatibility of the evidence or argument with the case and implications of this on the case.
The reliability of the evidence for the case or point being made.
The significance of the research.
The consistency of the individual parts of the description in the research to each other and the whole.
The comprehensiveness of the research.
