Itching
To rid yourself of poison ivy juice after you are first exposed, wash well with soap and water, then give yourself a sponge bath with rubbing alcohol to thouroughly remove it. If rash or blisters have already erupted do not use rubbing alcohol!! Crush jewelweed stems and the swollen nodes (not the roots) and apply the juice to a poison ivy or poison oak rash. Use mugwort juice. Make a tea of decocted sweet fern using the fragrant leaves and flower tops. Make a compress and use externally. This tea will stain clothing.
Make a cream or lotion of calendula or chamomile. Add about 10 drops each of goldenseal and tincture of dandelion and 5-7 drops each of tincture of burdock root and tincture of queen's-root to 1/2 cup water. Make a test on an unaffected area of skin to make sure that these ingredients are not irritating to you. If clear, apply to affected area.
