Colds

Take Chicken soup, steaming hot and seasoned with garlic Ingest raw garlic to stop a sneezing attack. Also, eat a few cloves of garlic to fight an infection, then chew parsley for breath. Take fennel or ginger tea if the garlic upsets your stomach. Use garlic, sage, onions, thyme and Vitamin C regularly to help prevent colds and infections.
Drink hot water or tea laced with honey and lemon.
Let dishes drip dry, don't wipe them with a towel which spreads germs.
Hot Buttered Rum
Put 1 tsp brown sugar in a mug, sprinkle in some ground cloves and a dab of butter, add a jigger of rum, and fill with boiling water. Stir with a cinnamon stick. Good for colds and chills.
Decongestant Inhalant
Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add 2 tsp powdered eucalyptus leaves, 2 tsp powdered pennyroyal leaves and flower tops and 2 tsp powdered rosemary. Turn off heat and remove pan. Inhale the vapors deeply.
As an inhalant use as needed. You may also drink this infusion. Pregnant and nursing women should consult a physician before drinking. Otherwise healthy adults may drink up to 2 cups a day. Children should not drink this infusion.
Cold Formula
Do not use if pregnant or nursing.
Bring one cup of water to a boil in a saucepan. Add 2 tsps powdered echinacea, 1tsp powdered Chinese ephedra (ma huang) and 2 tsp powdered slippery elm bark. Simmer 10 - 15 mins on low heat. Add 2 tsps freshly grated or powdered gingerroot and lemon and honey to taste. Remove from heat and steep for 10-20 mins. Strain. Reheat before drinking.
This formula should be used only once a day. If congestion isnt a problem, adults can remove the ephedra and increase use to 3 times a day. Do not give to children.
