Objective:
This study is designed to enable students to
·
acquire a knowledge of the ways in which
businesses are managed;
·
develop an understanding of management, and the
concepts and relationships on which it is built;
·
examine the role and functions of management
across a range of contexts;
·
explore the operation of management in practice;
·
acquire a knowledge of the skills required in
management;
·
examine the values and
assumptions underlying business management practice and theory.

Units 1 and 2
Unit 1: Going into business
Outcome 1
On completion of this unit the student should be able
to explain and apply a set of business concepts and relationships to a range of
businesses.
On
completion of this unit the student should be able to apply small business
management principles and practices and evaluate their effectiveness in various
business situations.
On completion of this unit the student should be able
to identify innovative management practices and assess the relative importance
of the factors creating change.
On completion of this unit the student should be able
to identify and explain a range of effective communication methods used in
business.
Outcome 3
On completion of this unit the student should be able
to analyse effective marketing strategies and processes.
Assessment
The award of satisfactory completion for a unit is based on a decision that the student has demonstrated achievement of the set of outcomes specified for the unit. This decision will be based on the teacher’s assessment of the student’s overall performance on assessment tasks designated for the unit.
Assessment
Tasks
Assessment tasks will be a part of the regular teaching and learning program. Demonstration of achievement of Outcomes would be based on the student’s performance on a selection of assessment tasks. Assessment tasks for these units are:
S case study analysis;
S business
research (print and online);
S development of
a business plan;
S interview and
report of contact with business;
S business
simulation exercise;
S school-based
short-term business activity;
S essay;
S test;
S computer
modelling;
S business survey
and analyses;
S
analytical exercises.
S Exams (Mid Year and End of Year)
Award
At the Completion of a unit student’s result will be reported as:
“S’ - Satisfactory. You have demonstrated the achievement of the learning outcomes
Or
‘N’ - Not Satisfactory. You have NOT demonstrated the achievement of the Outcomes
You will achieve an “S” result by demonstrating satisfactory achievement in all assessment tasks.
Gaining 60% or more mark in an assessment task shall be deemed to be satisfactory achievement in that task.
Attendance of 80% or more is also required for a satisfactory award.
