Visionary people are visionary partly
because of the very great many things they don't see. --
Berkeley Rice - Writer and editor
Every business deals with
some sorts of products. To venture into online business, you
also need a product. This product is not necessary hard
goods as sold in the retail store. It can be anything...
There are many things you can sell
online...only the sky is the limit. One criteria
however...is to get the ones that people want!
Before you can come up with your product to
sell on the internet, you need to come up with your site
theme...that is...what your site is about.
|
|
1. |
Well, what kind of product
can be sold on the net? |
| |
As mentioned, you should not just think about selling
hard goods (like clothing, hardcopy books, jewelries,
etc) on the net. Think about what online business you
should venture in. Besides
selling hard goods, there are...e-goods, consulting
services, info-products, online auctions, banner ads,
affiliate programs, and many many more...that you can
put on the internet and start an online business with
them. |
|
|
2. |
I don't have anything to
sell. What can I do? What site theme should my site be? |
| |
Ask yourself a question: Do you know
something about anything? Do you have a hobby, passion, or
interest you so enjoy that you want to share it with your
friends? What about your experience in traveling to the
Himalayas, breastfeeding or reading a good book?
You can even write about how you manage your family,
about your country and recommend good travel spots to
travelers, etc. Almost anything you can think of can be
your site theme. It doesn't
matter if you are computer or internet newbies, SOHOs or
startups, think Passion! |

What are e-goods? |
| |
e-Goods are digital goods that can be
downloaded from the internet. They are the most appropriate
products to be sold online because your customers can get
them by just a click of the mouse...instantly, directly to
their computer. They don't have to wait for a week or so to
get the goods to be delivered to their door step. And they
don't need to pay the extra shipping charges.
And of course, you save the hassle of
packing and delivering the goods. Best of all, you don't
have to keep stock...save you money and storage space!
Examples of e-goods are...software, video games, music files
(like midi, mp3), and info-products. |

Info-product? What exactly
are they? |
| |
Products that provide specialized, high-value
information that people want. Things that you
know...your knowledge! Got it?
Let say you are interested in bird watching.
You go to the great outdoors and take hundreds of different
beautiful species of birds with your digital cameras. You
compile all your hard works to a masterpiece and share it
with the rest of those who are equally interested in bird
watching or just anyone else. You make your masterpiece into
an e-book and use Bird Watching as your site theme. You then
sell your bird watching e-book through your bird watching
site. Build
in-demand content of your knowledge in e-books or on your
website...and this is your info-products.
Turn your knowledge into revenue. People are
searching for information that you know. Offer them the
answer through your info-products. |
|
|
5. |
How do I develop my own
info-products? |
| |
|
1. |
As mentioned, start off with what you know and that
what you know also what people want to know. |
| |
|
|
2. |
Package your knowledge into e-books (in PDF
format) or software, etc. |
| |
|
|
3. |
Price your product appropriately. |
| |
|
|
4. |
Improve your product accordingly. |

6. |
How do I set the price on my
products? |
| |
Before you price your product, consider
the following factors...
|
1. |
The nature and value of benefits of your
products...are they common retail goods which
already have a general price? or are they
not-in-the-market product and yet deliver great
benefits which can be priced high? |
| |
|
|
2. |
The buying power of your targeted customers...are
they willing to pay for your products? |
| |
|
|
3. |
The price set by your competitors. |

7. |
What should I take note of
when choosing my products? |
| |
Consider the following...
|
1. |
Product Quality. |
|
2. |
Competition...no or little
competitors. |
|
3. |
Niche Product...unique market. |
|
4. |
Easy to promote. |
|
5. |
Advantage to sell on the web...easy
and with zero cost. |
|
6. |
Advantage to buy on the web...easy,
convenient and fast. |
|
7. |
Little or no support required to use
the product. |
|
8. |
Inventory...if needed, should be
cheap to maintain. Info-products will have no
inventory. |
|
9. |
Potential for repeat purchase. |
|
10. |
YOUR passion! Sell something that
you enjoy! |
|
|
|
8. |
What is affiliate marketing?
How to succeed at affiliate programs? |
| |
Let's use the Bird Watching site again
as an example. Your bird watching site talks about the
technique on bird watching, what equipment to use, the
best place to bird watch, how to compile the pictures
you took, etc. You know that
there's this merchant selling bird watching equipments
and pays commission to web owners who help sell the
products for him. The merchant provides the web owners
with the affiliate link to be put on the website. When
visitors go to your bird watching site and click on the
merchant link and buy the product, you earn affiliate
commission from the merchant.
