October 1, 1376 (The Year of the Bent Blade)

The remodeling of our keep has taken many long months, but finally the construction is complete. The waiting has been difficult, knowing that my sister languishes in the captivity of Oahbe, but it is finally over. Today is the day that my companions and I set to meet to decide our next course of action, and I have information to share.

Last night, Oahbe’s familiar visited me once again. I was not surprised – surely a mage of his power would be watching us and know when we were prepared for another task. The imp directed me to take the Fiend’s Embrace to one Quas, to be found in the town of Waymoot in Cormyr. There I would receive further instructions.

Loath as I was to follow Oahbe’s instructions like a pawn being moved on a chessboard, I really had no choice. I passed the information on to my companions, and they all agreed that we must play along – for now.

After traveling to Waymoot, I met with Quas and learned that Oahbe desired a tome that was in a nearby ruin – the Libris Draconus. He warned me that others sought the tome as well, most notably the priests of the Black Rose, servants of Cryic. While I was learning this disturbing news, my companions did their own searching in the town. Omiata was especially successful, learning that Oahbe was no longer merely the powerful mage that I remembered as my father’s rival – he had become a lich, a being of dark undead power.

The combination of the name of the tome and Oahbe’s transformation to lichdom left open only one interpretation of his eventual goal – he was planning to raise a dracolich, and undead dragon of immense power! It could be argued that such creatures were the worst form of evil on the face of Faerûn.

My companions and I are united in our desire to stop this madness. But we could not simply refuse to retrieve the tome – doing so would not only doom Driew, but would cause Oahbe to simply use other adventurers to gain his prize. No, we must retrieve this tome, and use it as leverage to upset Oahbe’s plans once and for all.

It was not an easy task, but the tome is ours. The ruin where the tome was located contained many dangers. We faced the priests of Cyric several times. Many undead creatures roamed the ruins. Ahmed and Omiata nearly drowned in the clutches of a cunning trap, but the rogue was barely able to save them with his skill at disarming such devices. A massive stone golem and a group of water elementals nearly ended the ranger’s life on two occasions. And the tome itself was guarded by many traps that were only avoided by deciphering many mysterious words that appeared for a few seconds on the walls, then vanished. All these dangers, we overcame, and the tome has been retrieved.

Now we must return to Quas and determine what Oahbe would have us do next. Of one thing I am sure – I will not allow the lich to use this dread tome, no matter the cost. I am confident that my companions and I will find a way to defeat his evil schemes.
