The street

I live down the street from here
I've seen many things I shouldn't have seen
I ani't any genius here
But I've wandered for years around here

I live down the street from here
I've seen children fight and fear
For every night they've spent out here
I bet you wouldn't have stayed around here

I live down the street from here
I've seen you for years and years
Looking for some broken seat
You used to sit on and think

I owe you so many smiles
You've left on that broken door
When you only stood before
Hoping it would open more

No one I've seen before
Would offer such a gentle thought
No one I've seen before
Would spend some time before my door

I live down the street from here
I've seen them build this big old tree
It's been ther for years always free
I cannot tell you what that means

I live down the street from here
So many people died around here
While I was just standing near that tree
Thinking 'bout a way to be

No one I've seen before
Would offer such a gentle thought
No one I've seen before
Would spend some time before my door

I live down the street from here
I'm so old like this big old tree
Still standing there close to me
I can see my soul flying away from me

Finally reaching liberty
