currently live in Brisbane, Queensland, which is conveniently located on
the east coast of Australia. It has a population of about 1.6 million
people, and until just recently, was considered a "overblown country town"
by the people of Sydney and Melbourne.
It is only a hour and half away from the Queensland/New South Wales border, and only short drives to both the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. It is sheltered by several islands, including Moreton Island and Stradbroke Island. |

Brisbane
is now a lively cosmopolitan city with several interesting districts, a
good street-cafe scene, a great park, a busy cultural calendar and a buzzing
night life.
The city centre is focused on the Queen Street mall, and has a decent casino close at hand (many a drunken night has been spent there!) |

Across the river from the city is Brisbane's South Bank, which was where World Expo 1988 was held. This is now an excellent landscaped riverside park, with grassy areas, streams and a fantastic open-air swimming pool designed to resenble a lagoon, complete with a crescent of white sandy beach. It also has numerous cafes and restaurants and a IMAX theatre. There is usually something going down at Southbank, weither it be some kind of performance, fair or food festival taking place. |

| Brisbane
is sub-tropical, with warm winters and even warmer summers. In winter
the daily highs linger around about 20 degrees C (about 74 for all you
back to front people), and lows of about 8 degrees (57 degrees).
In summer time, it is VERY humid with temperatures sometimes in their 30s
(over 85 degrees), in the summer the temperature rarely goes below 20 degrees.
Although close to the coast Brisbane is pretty much a river city. It is a scenic place surrounded by hills and fine lookouts and impressive bridges spanning the Brisbane River. It is built along and between the looping meanders of the Brisbane River, some 25kms upstream from the river mouth. One of
the mottos for the city is "Australia's most livable city"... I am one
to agree with that!
