Here are a few of the plants that essential oils are made from and what they are useful for:
Benzoin- Is used for colds, cough, flu and sore throats. It comforts the pain from stomach or urinary tract infections, heals many kinds of skin lesions, from cracked and chapped hands to chilblains.
Bergamot- It is especially valuable in treating urinary tract infection, depression and anxiety along with skin care. It is one of the most valuable oils in treating cystitis and urethritis.
Frankincense- It is one of the best pulmonary antiseptics, calms coughs and is indicated where there is chronic bronchitis. It is particularly useful to people with asthma as it slows and deepens the breathing.
Geranium or Rose Geranium- It helps to balance extreme emotions and has an uplifting effect making it useful in the treatment of nervous tension, anxiety, depression, melancholy and fatigue.
Ginger-It is excellent for colds, flu and diarrhea, and stomach cramps. Rheumatism, arthritis, muscular pain and fatigue can be eased by hot compresses or massage and it is an excellent gargle for sore throats.
Lavender- It is an effective sedative and will aid in sleep and can relieve many forms of headache and muscular pain. Also can help with many upsets of infancy-colic, irritablility and childhood infections.
Neroli- Used in helping with problems of emotional origin. It is especially valuable for states of anxiety and in the treatment of shock and hysteria, and insomnia that arises from anxiety.
Rose- It can be used to regulate the menstrual cycle and is thought to aid conception. It is helpful for women suffering from post-natal depression, or depression following the break-down of a relationship.
Sandalwood- Is probably best known as a perfume, yet it can be used for dry and dehydrated skins, but it is also helpful for oily skins and acne, as it is slightly astringent and a powerful antiseptic.
