Article One
The name of this organization shall be "May You See Things In Clarity" Society, or MYSTIC Society, of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Article Two
Section one: The purpose of MYSTIC Society is to foster understanding between people and their beliefs, to create a safe haven for spiritual harmony and emotional honesty, to cast aside philosophical barriers and religious prejudices, and to break down the figurative "Great Wall".
Section two: MYSTIC Society is an informative collective of alternative spirituality including Paganism, Wicca, Native American spirituality, and Druidism. While these religions will be our main focus, all religions have a voice in this organization. We believe that religion is an individual's relationship with a deity or deities.
We have no control over the lives and beliefs of an individual's personal life; therefore we can and will not regulate their activities outside of meetings or events.
The laws of this country state, community, and university were made for the good of the population. Therefore, we will not tolerate any illegal activity at meetings or events.
Article Three
Section one: This organization and its programs and activities shall be available to all interested students without regard for race, color, sex, creed, religion, national origin, age, handicap, sexual orientation, or other factors covered by law.
Section two: Prospective members should attend at least one meeting and one event. Members are SIUE students only.
Section three: All members have voting privileges.
Article Four
Section one: Officer duties
President: To preside and lead executive and regular meetings; appoint committees and chairpersons with the approval of the membership; perform other duties as deemed necessary.
Vice President: To preside in the President's absence and perform other duties as deemed necessary; help plan and organize events and activities.
Secretary: Attend and keep minutes of all executive and general meetings and preserve records of the organization; perform other duties as deemed necessary.
Section two: The duration of all the offices is one year.
Section three: Nominations shall be taken from the membership for new officers. Any officer can serve consecutive terms if elected.
Section four: Elections of officers shall take place yearly on October 31st or any time an officer is removed or steps down. New officers must be elected with a 2/3 majority vote of the general membership.
Article Five
If the position of university advisor is vacated, selection of the university advisor will be done in the following manner:
1) Nominations are taken from the general membership.
2) The nominations will be voted upon by the membership with a 2/3 majority vote.
3) The SIUE faculty or employee may choose to accept or not accept the position.
4) If he or she chooses not to, this process will be repeated.
Article Six
Meetings shall be held biweekly on Wednesdays and start at 6:30pm. Any special meetings may be called by the executive board. The president has the authority to call meetings, as well as the vice president if the president is unavailable.
Article Seven
To transact business at a general meeting, half plus one of the membership must be at the meeting.
Article Eight
Amendments to this Constitution may be proposed to the voting membership by a majority vote of the Executive committee, or by a petition of 1/3 of the voting membership. Amendments shall be declared "adopted" when it is presented at two meetings and receive a 3/4 majority vote at the final meeting.
Article Nine
The order of business at regular meetings shall be as follows:
1) President calls the meeting to order
2) What happened at the last meeting
3) Special announcements
4) Old business
5) New business
6) Topic of discussion, guest speaker, video or other activity
7) Adjournment
The order of business will be conducted by Robert's Rules of Order
Article Ten
Should a member of the Executive committee be found in violation of this constitution, another MYSTIC member shall be elected by a 2/3 majority vote to sit temporarily in the accused officer's place for the purpose of the vote for dismissal.
Article Eleven
Any member found in violation of the word or spirit of this Constitution may be dismissed from MYSTIC by a 2/3 majority vote of the general membership present at an official meeting at the discretion of the founding members.
Article Twelve
To ratify this constitution, a 3/4 vote of a quorum of the membership is required.
