| "You know, if I'm gonna spend another three hours of my time watching a movie, maybe I should watch 'Gangs of New York.', since I've already spent 9 watching this one." "Yes, but why would you want to do a thing like that?". Well said, Anne. Okay, I have a slight Orlando Bloom fixation. I must apologize to my fellow theater patrons for the giggling and drool. I just can't help myself. Really, who could? That being said, on to my review. I will try to stay objective (and focused) here. I really liked The Two Towers - I was expecting a lot and it delivered. I felt that in some ways, it was better than Fellowship of the Ring. Characters were utilized better, and their friendships were developed more deeply. The battle scenes and action sequences, even after a third viewing, were jaw-dropping. And Gollum just looked amazing. The detail that went into the smallest subtleties - eye movements, facial twitches, the way skin moved over muscle - fleshed out the most realistic CGI character I have ever seen. |

| I felt that the plotline was a bit more fragmented than the first movie, but that's just the nature of the books. Also, Jackson took more artistic license with this movie - the first one stayed more loyal to the book. I didn't really care for all the "save the children" shots during the Battle at Helm's Deep. Give me a Legolas shot (need I say why?), or even one of Gimli any day. The new characters were very well cast (I found Bernard Hill as Theoden especially compelling), but Eowyn's role was dumbed down, and Faramir was turned into an ass. There were also a few big differences in the plot, but I won't list them here. Hopefully Jackson will explain himself and add in some scenes when the DVD comes out. | ||||||||||||||||
