To talk OOC (out of character), use ((double brackets)).
To do actions, you can use a range of different symbols, like *asterisks*, ::double colon things::, <greater than and less than signs>...yeah, the list goes on.
And to talk IC (In Character), you can just speak normally. Or, you can use "speech marks", some people prefer to do that.
This calls for a demo, if you still don't get it. Imagine this RP session in AIM:
SlamDunk924: Hello, my dear ::bows::
ILIKECANDY1: "Why hello sir!" *smiles* "How are you doing this fine night?"
SlamDunk924: ((man, I hate talking like this, can we just talk normal?))
ILIKECANDY1: ((sure))
ILIKECANDY1: "I challenge you to a Pok�mon match!"
SlamDunk924: I accept your challenge! ::laughs:: Good luck!
Uhh, yeah. Those people aren't real/we don't know them, so go ahead and message them if you really want to...but we hope this helps you get the idea of how to RP! And umm, the sessions usually aren't THAT corny. This is just an example >.>;
