Chapter 10
Let the good thunder roll
Rikku fell asleep on Auron. After their kiss which turned into a “make out”
session of sorts lasted a couple hours and then a couple more of just talking,
Rikku got exhausted and fell asleep on Auron. Auron didn’t mind, he felt like
he was in heaven. He just hugged Rikku tight and fell asleep. In middle of the
night he heard Rikku cry a little, realizing she was having a nightmare from the
horrific events at Macalania Temple.
They just laid in the same position all night long. It had become morning by
now, which was strange as Auron usually gets up before dawn. The events of late
must have exhausted them both because when an employee of the travel agency
knocked on the door, neither of them woke up nor heard her. Neither did they
hear a bare chested Blitzball player walk into the room quietly. He walked
quietly to the bed, standing right above them, then….
“GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUGH!” Jecht yelled into
both of their ears. Rikku was far past afraid and Auron; he sat up quickly,
almost knocking Rikku to the floor. Jecht just started laughing as hard as his
body would allow him.
“So..how did the monkey and her lover sleep?” Jecht asked. Auron looked at
him, he took his hand and wrapped it around his neck.
“Die, Zanarkand boy.” Auron then pounced on him. Rikku was still in a dazed
state as all of this was happening.
Braska was waiting outside when a cranky Auron and a still dazed Rikku came out
of the travel agency. A few minutes later Jecht came out with bruises all over
his body. Braska looked oddly at the man and then laughed. Braska realized it
was Jecht that made a noise that everyone across the Thunder Plains could hear.
“Be lucky I didn’t kill him Lord Braska. “ Auron glared at Braska. Braska
laughed some more.
“I was told that now is a good time to pass. Beware though, since there is
less thunder and rain, more fiends are going to be out and about. We need to be
very careful.” Braska started off towards the area. Everyone followed except
for one.
“Rikku, what are you waiting for?” Braska asked.
“I…I’m afraid of thunder. I thought I wouldn’t be so afraid now but I
guess I am realizing I’m here. I…” Rikku stuttered
“Monkey, you know we have to pass this area.” Jecht told her firmly.
“I know!” Rikku looked down.
“Rikku..do not worry alright, I promise I wont let you get shocked by the
thunder.” Auron took Rikku’s hand and gripped it hard. He nodded to her,
letting her know he would keep his promise. Rikku looked down on the ground and
the group started to walk towards the giant bolts of electricity. Rikku held his
hand so hard that Auron felt it go numb. ‘As long as the fiends aren’t too
bad I guess it will be okay’ he thought.
Auron wasn’t okay though. For the first five minutes into the Thunder Plains
everything was peachy keen, then they suddenly were surrounded. All sorts of
creatures surrounded the four people. Rikku let go of Auron’s hand so he could
use his weapon properly. The group decided run; they fought their way through
the fiends, one by one until they found a pillar to rest at. They all sat down
around the pillar, the fiends only encircling them, waiting.
“We’re in huge trouble now…” Jecht commented while wrapping his hand
around an open gash. Braska used his magic to make it stop bleeding, but still
you could see where he was cut.
“THAT’S IT!!!! I WANT OUT OF HERE!!!” Rikku yelled. She took out her
weapon, and some grenades. She threw five or six grenades at the circle of
fiends then ran through, the group followed. Rikku then took her weapon, and
slashed her way through the rest of the fiends, lined up ready to take them on.
The fiends were hurting Rikku, though her attacks were killing if not wounding
the fiends more. They reached the halfway point of the plains, as indicated by a
small shelter. Rikku went under the shelter then kicked the pillar, attracting
all the lightening.
“Rikku what’s wrong?” Braska asked.
“I’ll tell you what’s wrong!!! I’ve had it with everything! This is all
just too hard right now! From coming here, to what happened at Macalania to
this! IT’S JUST TOO MUCH!!!! I…I thought what happened at Macalania
wouldn’t bother me so much but it does. They did things that no one should
have to be put through. I felt so dirty, so shameful. I was embarrassed, I felt
like I couldn’t even take care of myself, it ended up that Auron had to come
save me!” Rikku faced away from everyone, and cried.
“Rikku…you didn’t have to hide, you don’t have to hide how you feel in
front of us.” Braska wrapped his arms around Rikku, embracing her slightly.
“I…I just wanted to act strong. I didn’t want you to think I was…I am
weak. I’m just so tired though. I hurt inside, I hurt outside…I feel like I
cannot go on.” Rikku was wondering if it was the beginning of the end for her.
“No Rikku! You must! We don’t think you’re weak, I’d never think you’d
be weak. Everyone has times when their best isn’t good enough but you don’t
need to act like nothing will bother you!” Jecht joined the embrace.
“Rikku. We’ll all be here for you. It’s not your fault for what happened
at Macalania. Its not your fault for being Al Bhed, its not your fault for not
being able to deal with it. And Rikku, of course you’d be hurting, just look
at the trail of dead fiends you left behind you.” He pointed to all the fiends
lying on the ground, and pointed to the ones who feared the Al Bhed at the
moment. Everyone, even Rikku chuckled a little. He then joined the embrace.
“Y…you guys. There’s something I must tell you. When we get to Moonflow
I’ll tell you. And, thank you everyone.” Rikku hugged back. When Rikku
controlled herself as to be able to move again, they walked out back into the
rain. While the fiends became scared of the group and ran away, the thunder came
down hard.
“This isn’t so bad!” Jecht yelled. It was almost as if he was taunting the
thunder. He would purposely dodge right before the thunder hit him. Braska
nodded his head, Auron frowned. Rikku thought as long as the thunder stayed away
from her then she didn’t care. There was a flash of lightning.
“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!” Came a voice yelling. They noticed Jecht had been
struck by lightening and was twitching on the ground. Everyone laughed
uncontrollably, looking at Jecht’s situation.
“Hey! I’m hurting here!” Jecht yelled.
“So you are…” Auron had a smug face on him. Rikku just giggled. Braska
laughed some more then used a healing spell on him. The group started again,
this time Jecht not taunting the lightning and only ducking when he needed to.
Rikku had felt much better and really didn’t concentrate on the lightening
anymore.
While still a little uneasy, everything happening made her feel a little bit
better. Her main concern now was what to say when they got to Moonflow. ‘Oh
well…whatever I say will suffice. I can only wonder what you’re doing up
there in the farplane old man. Are you about ready to kill me for telling
yourself and your two companions the truth? Well that’s what you get for
torturing me old man!’ Rikku thought to herself, thinking about the older
version of Auron always ignoring and taunting her.
“Finally! I can see the sky over there! I mean blue sky! Not like this thunder
and lightening crap! This Spira…or whatever, is really odd sometimes. I’d
take my Zanarkand anyday..” Jecht started ahead of the group, hoping to get
out of this pit of rain and clouds and depression.
“I’m sure you’re glad to be out of here right Rikku?” Braska questioned.
Rikku nodded, and ran off towards Jecht. Auron and Braska decided to let them
wait at the border and walk at their same, normal pace. Before they got to the
end of the Thunder Plains, Auron stopped and motioned Braska to stop as well.
Braska turned around, looking at him questionably.
“I love her Braska. I’ve never felt this way.” Auron smiled to Braska.
“I’m glad to hear that Auron.” Braska didn’t know what else to say. His
friend was truly different then he had been before the pilgrimage, before he met
Rikku. Auron had always been somewhat reserved, and lonely. When Rikku came it
changed everything, Auron was more…human.
“I want to let you know it won’t interfere with your pilgrimage though. I am
your guardian, and will continue to be your guardian until…” Auron did not
want to say it, not yet. He thought he could hold the feelings a little longer.
“I am happy to hear that, but I want you to do something for me. If anything,
think of it as an order from me. I do not want you to decide between Rikku and
me. You are my best friend, but I want you to be with the one you love. It makes
me very happy to see you like this, to feel this way.” He grabbed Auron and
hugged him tightly.
“Lord Braska…I will always love you. You have been a friend, and acted like
a brother to me. If it weren’t without you I wouldn’t be here now. Remember
that.” Auron squeezed Braska.
“They’ll wonder what we’re doing Auron.” Braska let go of Auron, and the
two of them starting walking, hoping to catch up to the others soon.
End notes: this is a fairly short chapter. To tell you the truth I hate the
thunder plains as well ^^;; expect another chapter tonight though! but first I
must to calculus homework!
