Many years ago a Cherokee Maiden
was born into a family of loving parents and sister.
The young Maiden had cotton white hair and blue eyes.
Due of course to the fact that the parents
were of mixed blood.

In the young maidens eyes you could
see the clear blue sky,
in her cheeks you could see the roses,
and in her hair the corn silks of the Corn Mother.

This was a child of Earth.
Her body was strong, like that of a young brave.
Her legs were muscular like those of a wolf,
she was strong runner.

The young Maiden was the best
child a parent could have.
She loved the animals and the flowers
and the plants and the trees.

She would never harm a living
thing that had been created.
She cherished Mother Earth,
Grandmother Sun, Father Sky,
and Grandfather Moon.

She loved her parents and
her older sister, and always tried
to do what was right.
She always did as her parents
asked and she never got
into any kind of trouble.

She grew to be a beautiful young woman
and many braves wished to marry her.
She chose a brave who was not
to her parents liking but she loved
him and he loved her in return,
so her parents finally approved
and they were married.

For many moons the lived
in peace with the Earth
and with the children that had
been given to them.
They were truly blessed.
But we all know things do not
work out the way we want them to.

As time passed as it always does
the young Maiden grew sick.
No one knows exactly what happened
but she started to grow very thin,
and she had a hard time breathing.
Her life was ebbing away from her.
cherokeefeather.jpg - 2781 Bytes
She chose to do things that
she normally wouldn't have done:
Like get treatments from
the white mans doctors.
She did this for her family as
they did not want to loose her.

cherokeefeather.jpg - 2781 Bytes
Her childrens and her husband
were afraid of the life they
would have without her.
They were not thinking of
the pain and suffering that
their mother and wife was going through.
She had done many things for them.
NOW it was time to do something for herself.
cherokeefeather.jpg - 2781 Bytes
The young Maiden stopped all
of the treatments from the
white mans doctors and put herself
in the care of Grandmother Sun,
Grandfather Moon, Father Sky
and Mother Earth.

She knew her time here was short
but she would be at peace and without pain.
cherokeefeather.jpg - 2781 Bytes
She also knew that her family
would suffer, but in time they would
understand that she had done what was right.
Her older sister was all that was
left of her family from her
parents as they had long since
returned to Mother Earth.
For this she was truly sorry
to leave her sister whom she loved dearly.

But she knew that the
circle would never end.
It would continue on. And she also
knew that if no one else understood
what was happening her Sister would.

In time the young Maiden return
to Mother Earth and all her family
and friends grieved their loss.
BUT just as the sun was setting
over the horizon her sister heard
the lonely howl of a wolf.
In the distance she could see
the silver wolf that her younger
sister peace and had returned
to the form she was originally given.

The Young Maiden had
finally completed the Circle of life.
