The second step is finding the right colours for you.  A lot has been written on the subject of colour analysis and it's now big business, with consultants charging large sums of money to tell you the right colours to wear.  But it's really not that difficult to learn yourself.  If you fancy having a go at self-analysis I can recommend 'The Complete Style Guide' by Mary Spillane.  Having read many books on the subject myself I've found this to be the most comprehensive and easy to follow of all the guides.  Check out your local library to see if they have a copy available.  But if that sounds too much like hard work to you then I can also recommend a site called Stylemakeovers.com where you can take an almost foolproof Colour Makeover test to determine your seasonal type.  You are then taken through the correct palette of colours to flatter your complexion.  It's also worth checking out the advice on make-up, where lip and cheek colours are suggested for each seasonal type.  When you begin to plan your wardrobe you will need to know which of your colours are neutrals, basics and accents.

NEUTRALS....black and all shades of white, grey brown, beige and navy.

BASICS....all reds, gold, mid-tone blues such as royal, true blue, medium blue, grey-blue (petrel), airforce and teal, cornflower blue, mid-tone and dark greens such as true green, emerald, pine, blue-green, spruce, moss, bottle, olive and forest, plum and aubergine, copper and coral.

ACCENTS....all remaining colours.

Having used the Stylemakeovers site to find your correct lip and cheek colours you then need to determine what colour eye-makeup to go for.  Let your eye colour be your guide.

Soft or neutral shades are best for daywear....blue eyes suit soft pinks and peaches, light greys and beige; green eyes suit soft pinks, beige and soft browns; brown eyes suit soft pinks, peahces and medium browns.  For evening colours can be stronger....for blue eyes try pale or vibrant shades of purple, frosty pinks, lemon, navy, deep greys, silver and bright oranges;  for green eyes try lemon, teal, dark greens, pinks, pale frosty beiges, plum and medium browns; for brown eyes, lemon and gold, rich shades of green, rich pinks, deep purples, deep oranges and golden, rich or very deep shades of brown.   Simply select colours and shades that appear in your palette and you can't go wrong.  Kohl should either be a medium neutral or deeper version of your eye colour for daywear, and a deep neutral for evening wear.  Again, base your colour choices on your palette.  Mascara should reflect your hair colour....grey or soft brown for blondes and grey haired women, richer browns for redheads, dark brown, navy, black/brown or black for brunettes.
