This is my Dalmatian, Freckles. Someone had beat her and dropped her off out in front of our house. Our neighbor called us at 1 in the morning and told us that she was outside. Ever since then, she's been with us. She was born in 1996, but we're not sure of the month or date.....On the day that she died, I decided to make her birthday the first day of Spring as it just seemed fitting...March 20th.
For her memorial statue, I wanted something a little more personal than just the stone, so I painted it.
Before and After of the Statue
On January 2, 2005 Freckles passed on to the Rainbow Bridge. She started to get sick so we took her to the vet. He told us she had something majorly wrong with either her liver or her uterus. He thought it might be cancer. He said he could try to help her, but she only had a 15% chance of making it. This included a catheter, ivs, bloodwork etc....about $800 to just begin with. She was in horrible pain so he suggested that the best thing for her would probably be to put her down. After making the hard decision, we decided that it was for the best. We love and miss ya, girl! Until we meet again!
Freckles 1996 - 2005
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

~*~ Do not mourn my passing ~*~
Author Unknown
Do not mourn my passing
For if you could only see
By slipping all my earthly bonds
I'm young again and free
By day I run the Heavenly fields
My body healthy and strong
At night I sleep at Angels' feet
Lulled by Celestial Song
So, do not mourn my passing
Just close your eyes - you'll see
I'm once again that frisky pup
Just as you remember me
Thank you to Sandtracker for this lovely poem!
~*~ If it should be ~*~

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep;
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle can't be won.
You will be sad, I understand;
But don't let grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.
We've had so many happy years;
What is to come can hold no fears.
You don't want me to suffer so
The time has come, please let me go.
Take me where my needs they'll tend,
But please stay with me 'til the end
To hold me close and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree,
It was a kindness done for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I am saved.
Please do not grieve that it was you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
Thank you Jean for the lovely poem!
Message To My Master(s)
The day you laid me down to sleep
you prayed to the Lord; my soul to keep
I know you had to send me on my way
but you sent me to a new; better; and much brighter day
You sent me home; to heaven above
where I'm cradled in God's arms; covered with His love
I understand what you did; you did out of love
and I'll return that love; from my new home above
My sickness is gone; and I'm free here to roam
I run and play in the meadows; here in my new home
We play here by the Bridge; from morning to night
there is no rain here; just warm sunlight
I know you all miss me; I miss you all too
but I'll always be with you; whatever you do
Please wipe the tears; from your weeping eyes
by remembering the good times; from days gone by
When you look out; into the dark of night
I'll be that bright star; your guiding light
We'll meet again at the Bridge one day
when we'll walk in the light; together to stay
