Trying To Understand
If you keep this inside for one more day, Will it result in tragedy? I understand why you keep this from me, Yet, it seems so shallow to do so, No harsh feelings toward you though, But I still don't know your reasons why, Of course I'm worried, Of course I'm concerned, But all I do is sit back and wait for answers from anyone, I've always been taught that friends are made to listen, To cheer you when you're down, And drown out a lingering frown, But why must I be here; Not knowing what to do? And someone mentions your name, And all the day, All I think about is you, Are you okay? You're too strong to fall, And God reassures me that you'll make it after all, But it's still there in my mind, Although it's pushed aside, The doubts, The lies, The things that I somehow want to believe, But I'm not that shallow, So I change my thought toward tomorrow, Hoping to see a brighter day, A painless day, A happy day, Just to see your smiling face, And then you cry, So it all comes down, It crashes into my world, Meanwhile, your tears fall to the ground, But what can I do? I comfort you, And assure you that I'm there, But is it all in vain? Because there's still plenty pain to spare, Pass it around, Give it all to me, And I'll carry your burdens, Across that winding sea, And I'll take them far away, Too far out of reach, For anyone to find, On a dark and lonely alley, Or a neverending highway, And then you'll be filled with joy, Your sorrow will be long gone, And where will I be? Lost somewhere, all alone, So now I understand why I leave this up to you, You tell me if you feel it's right, And if that's what you need to do, I'll love you always either way, Whatever the circumstance may be, Because you're my best friend, And there's no denying that, No matter how far away you'll ever seem, And please hear me out when I say that; I'm holding on with all my faith, And not letting go of any days, Or memories we've made in the past, So when you open up at least remember, I'm only trying to understand.
