This is one version of doing candle "magic" (there are more to come)...I use "magic" in quotations because this is the well known term. Some use the word "magic", yet others may not prefer it saying it to be a cliche (stereotype). No matter what religion you are..these workings can play a part in ordinary life. Just like cooking is a part of ordinary life...you put something together to produce an outcome.
-Take a white candle (you may use a colored one according to the color list on the Candle Colors page), and carve your intent or what you're hoping to accomplish into the candle(you may make it rhyme if you wish, whatever feels best to you). You may use a knife or whatever works best and is easiest...if you get frustrated trying to carve with a big awkward knife, then chances are that you're not concentrating and only getting aggrevated, therefore defeating the purpose. You want to instill good energy into the "magic". Rub the candle with olive oil while saying your intent that you have carved into the candle. Light the candle and let it burn all the way down. You need to concentrate and be sincere in your working to achieve best results. Just remember not to go to sleep and leave your candle burning...very dangerous.
For those of you who wish to be more elaborate:
- Purify your candle by rubbing it with salt or anoint with blessed olive oil (or appropriate oil you have made, see the Herbs, Flowers, and Spices page) Say: "Creature of wax~Be clean and pure~On this night~I bless this candle"
-Carve with athame (or if no knife is dedicated as your athame, then a regular knife will work) what you need. Be specific and verbally affirm it.
- Rub candle with appropriate oil for your needs while visualizing your goal. If you are drawing energies towards you them rub the oil from top to base toward you. If you are banishing then rub the oil away from you.
- Place your candle in a candle holder (add extra herb power by sprinkling the right herb you need around base of holder.
- If you wish you may place any gemstone needed at the foot of the holder.
- Now focus on your goal and place your hands on either side of the candle. Imagine your goal forming into a silver orb, full of you intent, in between your hands. Release it into the candle!! Now light the wick and say: >"With this fire~I light my desire~Earth mother bless this, my intent~And bring it to be~With harm to none and help to thee~Tis my will~So shall it be!"<
- Leave the candle to burn for a minimum of 20 minutes. Relight each day if necessary.
~It Is Done~
Remember: Never wish or intent harm. The intent of "magic" is to help, not to harm. An intent that you write yourself to use will be the most successful as you have put your energy into it.
