| ANGELS OF MEMORIES by Ke-Ri Hanson Things had not been all that great for a long time thought Cara, brushing her beautiful blonde hair over one shoulder and looking sadly at the white stuffed bear in the corner of the room. No, they hand not been at all. First she had moved with her family from Canada because her dad had gotten a transfer. She didn't mind living in Pennsylvania, it was just so cold and lonely sometimes. "Cara, come on downstairs," her mother said. "It's time for church." She wanted to go downstairs, but it was just too hard after the terrible secret she'd learned the night before.... The night before, while hanging out outside the K-Mart, Cara had seen her mother in a parked car with a man who was not her father. Cara ran as fast as she could away from the car, but she was incredibly sad and didn't know how she would face her mother this morning. "Cara!!" her mother screamed. "Come downstairs now!" "I'm coming..." said Cara. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ After church she met up with her friend Devon, who smart but not that nerdy. "Is something wrong Cara?" asked Devon. "I don't know if I can tell you, Devon." she answered. "Cara, you're my best friend." he said. "I hope you can tell me all your secrets." "not this one, Devon." she said. Suddenly, Cara had an idea. What if that wasn't really her mother in the car? What if it was all a lie she made up in her head because she was so angry at her family? Or what if it was... "Devon," she said. "It's finally time for me to tell you the secret." Just then, a car drove by. "Cara, isn't that your Dad?" Cara looked and could hardly believe her eyes. There was her Dad with another woman! What was going on? "Devon," she said. "I think I'm going crazy!!" Then she told him the story of what had happened. "I can't believe it!" said Devon. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ That night, dinner was a very tense situation. Cara could hardly contain her anger. Finally, in the middle of desert, she freaked out. "I can't take this any more! Both of you are cheating, and I saw you!" Cara's parents were startled and upset. They stared at each other for a long time. Then they stared at Cara. Finally, Dad opened his mouth, and quiet angry words came out. "Cara... go to your room." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The next morning, the police found Cara in the river. She had jumped off the bridge and killed herself. Thousands of people attended the funeral, and they played her favorite song. her parents cried and wondered why they did what they did. But this didn't change anything. No matter how hard they wished, she was dead... and always would be. THE END |
