Susan's Review |

I LOVE the scene in the lecture hall at the beginning of this episode with the two students, Brent and Robert, interacting with Declan, who is clearly intigued and mystified by their similarities. I thought both of the young actors (Tygh Runyan and Tyron Leitso) did an excellent job with their characters. Adrian and Rae Dawn are wonderful in this episode and it is clear that their chemistry is really starting to shine through. Many tv partnerships take SEVERAL episodes and sometimes an entire season to build a rapport that is evident to the viewer, but not in this case. One of the great things about this show is that it can be deadly serious (literally, in the case of Robert's illness in this episode) and light-hearted in the next scene (the ending of this episode is very cute, without being overly so) without losing and credibility in switching between the two extreems. The only thing that concerned me in this episode is that it seemed as if there might be a set-up here for there to be more than a partnership/friendship/platonic/professional relationship (whatever you want to call it, LOL) between Peggy and Delan. (I'm referring to the end of the episode when Declan was recalling how he had considered dating Peggy in college.) This troubles me greatly, folks. I would hate for this relationship to become a romantic one, both because it would be sooooo predictible and because it would take something wonderful away from the show. Most shows seem to tank once the lead characters become romantically/sexually involved (hence the lack of interest in The X-Files last season, the demise of Moonlighting, Cheers...etc, etc.) either because the audience becomes bored with the romance or the writers do. I hope we are are not heading in that direction with "Mysterious Ways". I know that a lot of you may have different opinions and would like to see a romance develop between either Declan and Peggy or Declan and Miranda (or Peggy and Miranda and Declan and Mole...jk) and I respect your opinions, but IMHO, I like things no-romo for now. This show has been fantastic so far and already has a place in my heart, as do the characters, so let's hope the writers keep things professional, friendly, fun and challenging bewteen Peggy and Declan. But to those of you who are "shippers" in the TV sense of the word, don't let me influence you...different opinions and discussion of the characters is what will keep the show alive! |
