This episode begins with Declan on Peggy's couch questioning his work investigating mysterious phenomena. He has come to feel that his investigations are futile because he can never really prove that these questionable occurances are miracles, and at the same time, when he disproves these events to the ones who believe in them, he causes pain to the people involved. He leaves Peggy's office clearly dejected, but she meets him outside in the parking lot with a brochure from a white river rafting company. She feels it's just what the two of them need: A healthy and possibly spiritual journey in the great outdoors enjoying nature. Declan agrees to accompany her, but on their first outing in the raft, they capsize and Declan disappears under water.

Declan (and Mole) soon wash up on shore and are spotted by two hikers. Declan has some injuries including a broken leg and some cracked ribs. The hikers don't see any of the other members of the raft team around, nor do they find a raft. They take the injured Declan to a nearby doctor named Nader. He seems like a kind man and patches up Declan and offers him some of the "theraputic" water from an underground spring. Declan is soon feeling better, but is dismayed to learn he is n the middle of nowhere with no radio and no transportation. The doctor informs him that he has arrived at "Camp Sanopi" and that he is welcome to stay as long as he would like. A young boy, Kevin, befriends Declan and the next day the two go fishing together. Declan tells the boy how much he reminds him of his "crazy uncle" who also used to take him fishing. The boy is friendly, but somehow seems wise beyond his years. Declan is a little concerned when Kevin tells him that he resides at the camp year round, without his parents. Declan soon learns that all of the residents of Camp Sanopi live there "permanently". Declan grows even more concerned when Kevin introduces him to his "sister" who appears to be in her mid-forties. When Declan repeatedly tries to leave the camp, he gets no assistence from any of the others and can't find his way out on his own.

After learning that the wires on the two-way radio have been cut, Declan confronts Nader. He angrily informs him that he believes Nader is nothing more than a cult leader and is using mind control to keep the residents of Sanopi at the camp. He also believes that the "theraputic" water that the resident's drink is drugged. Nader denies all these charges, and Declan once again sets out to leave the camp. After walking in circles for twelve hours, he winds up right back where he started. Upset, he begins to rail at Nader, but the residents of the camp grab him and inject him with a tranquelizer and Declan loses consciousness. We later see Kevin talking to Nader, explaining the Declan is just "not ready". Nader agrees.

When Declan awakens, Kevin informs him that he "went the wrong way" when he tried to leave camp and tells Declan to follow him. They go down to the river and Kevin explains a little more about Camp Sanopi to Declan. It turns out that Kevin *is* Declan's "crazy uncle" who used to take him fishing as a kid. The utopian-like Camp Sanopi is apparently a form of "the other side" and Kevin tells Declan that when he is ready, he will come back. Declan jumps into the water and when he emerges again, he is in the river with Peggy and the other rafters, who inform him that he was only under for "about a minute." His injuries are still very real, however, and as Peggy sets his broken leg she apologizes to him: she'd hoped this trip would be a spiritual journey for him. Declan assures her that it has been.
