Brother Herbert's Notes

Morning:
After a night of discussion about the offer from Sir Galen Voss, (Lord of Stormreach, not Eberron), we head to bed.

The next morning, we wake up and and-introduced' to some old friends from the City of Greyhawk at breakfast. They are Tamar the Warrior and Badger the Mage. Apparently, they were 'invited' by Sir Voss to join our merry band of looters in this mission that he offered us, take out some troublesome slavers who have outlived their usefulness to him.

All agree save for Gwen, who couldn't be woken up (K didn't make it), to his request. Sir Galen summons his aid, Field Marshall Kendarian, to brief us and teach Badger how to defeat the ward that the Slavers keep around their abode. He also gives us each a bag containing three Potions of Cure Serious Wounds (Cure 3d8).

After prepping, we are taken to a secret location that will grant us access to the Slaver's hold. Badger defeats the ward on the entrance, but manages to set of a trap that hits him and Tamar who was also up front in the marching order. They took minor damage, but were still able to walk and fight.

We entered the hold and started exploring. The first room we enter contains nothing of interest, but the second room contained a surprise. Gregor and Tamar entered the room and they are ambushed by seven Ghouls and Ghasts of an extremely smelly sort. Brother Herb manages to Turn most of them away, (we later found out that a few of them should have been destroyed), and Badger lets loose with a fireball that takes out the ones that were turned away. Gregor, unfortunately, was paralyzed by the Ghast's touch and had to spend the combat stiff as a board on the ground.

Going further into the hold, we come across a room whose floor had collapsed into the basement below leaving a narrow ledge along the walls and a fallen column stretching across it. Gregor tries to move along the edge but falls in. Lady Raven tries the column, but also falls in. Badger and Tamar manage to make it across along the edge. Brother Herb deftly runs across the column and assists his compatriots out of the pit.

After bypassing a suspicious looking pile of rags, the party enters a stable were four Half-Orcs are having dinner. Gregor back-stabs one, (he has been having a bad day so far), and takes out another quickly. The rest of the Party come up and assist with the dispatching. Down a long hallway, we encounter six Orcs in what looked to be a foyer. We take them out rather quickly. Among the spoils, we find holy symbols from a wide variety of religions. Brother Herb takes all the symbols of Kord that he could find while the rest of the group pick through the collection finding the more valuable.

We enter a cemetery just south of the foyer, (giving suspicion that it is a hold from a former church or temple, but to what god, no one is certain.). It is a creepy place, so we hasten to leave as quickly as possible.

Somehow, we manage to find a way into the main courtyard of the hold. As we stumble into the area, we encounter roughly twenty-four Orcs and a nasty character that shrugs off magical attempts to take him out. Badger's Fireball does some damage, but it was Gregor's Flaming Sword that does this character in, but not before both Gregor and Raven take some debilitating damage that weakens their health, it was a Wight with a few levels of Mage. Mark ruled that Wight's don't do Level Drain, but damage the CON score. After taking down the Wight, the Orcs are dispatched in due course.

Moving on into another part of the hold, we encounter a pair of Basilisks. Fortunately, no-one was petrified, and we battled on. One of beasts manages to bite down on Herb's shield, which gives him and Tamar enough time to kill it. Gregor and Raven kill the other with little problem.

At that point, the party decides to find a place to whole up and rest for the night.

It's a damn shame that Gwen missed the session. According to the CK, this little trip will affect Gwen the most.
