Dear Diary:

We cam to a room and had a heavy encounter with some goblins and more, but afterwards we decided to stay in the room for the night and regain some healing. During the evening Ab Carol snuck out and we ended up with a half-elf range by the name of Kyrith knocking on our door. Instead of turning her out into the cold we greeted her with open arms and invited her in. To our surprise after we left the room in the morning we ran right into a ogre and his 5 buddy goblins. Gregor backstabbed it and the Kyrith  back him up with a great swat. It appears Kyrith knows how to fight giant kin. The rest of the group quickly joined into the right. Of note was a staggering blow from Raven, a good smack from brother Herb, and a very stinging arrow from me. The ogre went down fairly quickly and long with 3 of the goblins, but one ran a way like a coward at the beginning of the fight and brought back a ton of reinforcement.

Suddenly, we found ourselves in a pitch battle against 16 gnolls. I quickly tossed my only sleep spell in the middle, but I was only able to affect one which the rest of the gnolls killed just to get around. If was not going well against the gnolls, Raven fell  after swinging from a web entrusted sword, I missed with one of the only two bags of entanglement, and brother Herb gets dragged out into the middle of the gnolls, Kyrith  looses his sword into the entanglement webbing, and just then the gnolls are reinforced with 3 more goblins, a well trained fighter, and Vaelus a wizard. Of course it just gets worse,  with brother Herb badly injured and in the middle of  enemy teritory, but Kyrith managed to create a path for him to escape through. Unfortunately, in the process she too was badly injured and had to fight her way back. Raven was also badly injured, but managed to fight her way back along with Kyrith and both drain a few potions of healing. Fortunately, brother Herb's deity was generous and provided him with some necessary healing and the fortune to have a well charged wand of healing. Pictooth  managed to be hurt badly and also need some serious healing from brother Herb. Vaelus was picking us apart piece by piece, but we were making a path trough his minion gnolls and between a well placed magic missile and my sharp aim with the bow Raven finally managed to cut down the hired fighter. Now our full attention was on Vaelus and his last remaining gnolls and goblins. Vaelus even had the gall to ask for a parlay, but Pictooth 'politely' sort of said 'hell no'. Then Kyrith charged at the wizard and attempted to interfere with his spell casting, but to no avail. Then Vaelus nailed us with a lightning bolt that severely hurt everyone except for me. Fortunately, I was at the wrong angle behind a wall, but Kyrith, Raven, Herb, and Pictooth were not. Kyrith and Pictooth were not too fortunate and were taken out by the destructive streak of crackling energy. With the smell of ozone still burning in my nostrils I leapt out in front and nailed Vaelus with an arrow  right in his chest, but he managed to stay up. Out of nowhere Herb charged forth and struck him down with a single shot to the head.

Afterwards, we quickly took care of our fallen comrades, with the thanks of brother Herb and his deity and we headed back to town. Fortunately, we didn't encounter anything on the trip back, but we knew that the dragon would be waiting for us, so Raven volunteered to go into town by herself. I don't know what she said to him, but she managed to get by and went to Mr. Tombs and he agreed to help us for a price 100 gp per night. He sent another wizard to teleported us back to his place, but we had to agree to have any extra-dimensional holding magic items/spells activated or be activated throughout the entire stay. We all agreed and spent a few night healing up and copy some precious spells from Vaelous's spell book. During the process we managed to find out that Vaelus has some type of ritual intertwined throughout all of his spells. I managed to copy a few precious spells I need, but we didn't have enough time to copy the entire book. I was happy with what we were able to gain.

Happy with our 300 gp well spent we went back out side the keep and entered. the dragon woke up and ate a peasant and approached us directly. He walked directly up to me and asked for the book, which I gave to him. He then asked me a direct and simple question. How many spells did you copy, obviously he knew I copied some spells, so I just told him the truth. I replied "Just one". He looked at me strangely, but it was the truth I only copied one spell for me. Obviously he believed me, because I'm STILL BREATHING! I can't believe I pull that one off {natural 20!}. With that he said I give you a reward. "Oh shit, maybe I am going to die" to myself. He said some strange words and the book floated up with a eerie glow all about it and the words for the ritual literally leapt from the page and floated into the air and embedded themselves on his clawed hand. With that he spread out his wings and leapt into the air. In awe I poked myself just to make sure I wasn't dreaming, we were all alive @#$%!

Then the reality of the situation sunk in and the Precept's guards and soldiers quickly approached us with arms and demanded we follow to meal with the Precept. They escorted us to a elegant room with food and drink. We waited for him and he approached us directly with some very pointed questions. He wanted to know why so much troubled followed us. The rest of the group talked and and talked, but they seemed to be getting no were. I stepped in and asked Raven what would happen if the baron would find out if someone was not reporting the proper amounts. That seemed to irate the Precept even further, especially since he didn't understand my colloquial terms. Finally, be were able to make some head way in our conversation, and he informed us that a number of his guards disappeared even the corporal which was very familiar with Raven (can you say horizontal mambo. We finally agreed to investigate the disappearances and we would agree to help him find out who was responsible and he would in turn allow us to keep our head and Raven's personal activities would not be noted to her father, Earl ___________. The rest just seem to agree and didn't really say anything. I did however note that the Precept's  attitude was extremely negative towards Kyrith. I don't think the Precept appreciates Elves/half-elves.

Well, we are going to take a day and re-supply ourselves prior to investigating the abandoned mine and the disappearance of the Precept's men, but we also need to get back to the caves and find the rest of Vaelus's hideout/stash. I hope someday I will be able to find more clues as to my own history. Especially, since I have no memory of my past.

Kill them, Kill them ALL!
