Background

I swear I didn’t even have a chance of living a normal life. My story begins when I was just eight years old. I would spend summers with my grandparents romping in the woods enjoying life in the country away from my normal house in the city. It was great, especially once I learned to read. Once I started to read I couldn’t stop. It was great and luckily for me my grandmother and grandfather on my fathers side ha a magnificent library.

In their library they had books of every manner from spellbooks to theological texts. It was great. I would just sit and read all day long devouring the words and committing them to memory. It was great up until I started having nightmares. I would see visions of  my grandparents fighting back this monstrosity that was trying to kill the rest of my family.

One night it was so real that I leapt from my bed and searched for my grandparents. I searched the entire house until I found them in the basement. However, they were not alone. On a table laid out and disected was the body of a horrendous creature. My grandparents loomed over it examining it inch by inch. I gasped and my grandmother saw me. She ushered my out of the basement and into the kitchen. Here she began to try and explain. She said that she was a member of what was known as the Watcher Council. They were people who studied things other people would never understand. She began to tell me that my grandfather as well was a member and that together they had decided to retire from active duty in the Hellmouth to continue their studies. They also said that they had wanted me to go and train with the watchers too but that my father had forbid them to do so.

Seeing as how I had been exposed to this New World there was no way to go back. My grandparents adopted me from my parents and I began to study with them. I learned everything about demons and was a natural student of the occult. Eventually I was introduced to another watcher by the name of Jack. He would latter introduce me to the slayer.

However, two years ago when I stared high school my family was having a reunion of sorts, with my parents as well as all my grandparents present. Then the worst happened. One of my grandparents’ experiments escaped and unleashed lethal vengeance upon my family killing everyone…except me. I found it in a pool of blood and I just remember becoming so enraged at the thing that the world turned to flames and darkness.

When I woke up I was at Jack’s house were he took care of me. He later told me that the Council had put through the paper work for him to adopt me and that I would be living with him until I was old enough. He had one condition, however, and that was that I must turn my grandparent’s library over to him.  I agreed, I had memorized most of the texts anyway.

Roleplaying

You are a psychic, but you are first and foremost are an occultist. You have studied the creatures of the darkness as well as the light for sixteen years now. It is the most important thing in your opinion and thus keep very close tabs on what Jack does with your grandparents books. Not that you think Jack would ever deny you access to them but somehow you feel as though there is a little bit of your family in those books. Something that you just can’t lose again.
