Silence
by KatiKat
I sit here on the bank of the lake, legs tucked to my chest. I take a stone, a
shapeless, grey stone, and throw it in the water. It makes ripples and they
grow further and further and further apart...
Silence.
I needed to escape. From my family, my lover, the inevitability of what happened.
And so I ended up here.
Stone. Water. Ripples...
Silence.
A shadow falls on my face, then moves further up. I look up. There, in the blue
sky, a hawk is circling in search of new prey. His wings flap once, twice...
Silence.
They mean well, I know that. After what happened, they just want to make sure that
Iīm safe. But even though I understand, I have the feeling as if Iīm choking,
as if I canīt breathe. They donīt realize it, but they are taking away the last
bits of my freedom, closing me in a golden cage...
Bird. Sky. Circles...
Silence.
I donīt need to look around to know that he is there. My lover. Iīve always been
able to feel his presence. Itīs like an instinct, to follow the movements of
your mate. He sits down behind me, his long spread legs along my sides. He
encircles my waist with his arms and tucks me closer to his chest. I feel his
hot breath on my ear, his chest vibrates. He is talking to me...
Silence.
He is worried about me. I can tell. He always worries too much. I sigh, close my
eyes and let my head fall back onto his shoulder, shutting out the world around
me
completely. His chest is still vibrating, so he must be still talking. I wonder
what he is saying...
Voice. Words... Ripples on the surface of your mind...
And silence...
This is all Iīll ever hear... for I am deaf now...
Silence.
The End
